Here's mine! Xfinster did you also write the song for PMC#4? Really nice work!

Seems like you mixed it more like a singer/acoutic/player might hear it.
I mean it has extra guitar at the end, while the keys play more of an accomaniment type of role.

I dig it.

I also like how you upped the levels of the timpani too, that was nice.

Hi CHris,
do you think you could send us the seperated drum tracks? I would love to have control on the volume and eq. Thx

Sorry man, that would simplt take too long.
I will however post the midi tracks that made up the drums here in a bit so you can take it from there if you want.

Really though, it would seemd that being given the freedom to put your own drums up, you'd rather do that...

No?

really, a great song! :)
here's my first mix of it:
sine707 mix 1

I didn't add anything, just tweeked a little, please give me a feedback on this one! :)

I liked the big Timpani, seems like you widened the stereo imago on the timpani somehow...?

Also the prominient bass gtr was nice at the end, it was loud but not too boomy.

Nice job Sine.

Well... Bye bye this months download limit :s Looks like I'll be back down to dialup speeds in about an hour.

Hey I just downloaded the zip file. Winzip and Winrar complained about it being corrupted. Anyway I repaired it in winrar and want to make sure I've got the whole thing. Here are the files in the archive:

DI acustic
doumbek & conga
drums
elec bass
micd acustic
outro string
rev cymbal

Surely there's more than this... I don't want to have to download it again! :(

Heres the midi stuff

Hope that works, ive never tried to export midi before.

:D

Midi is my thing these days... Glad you offered this up.
Not a perfect MIDI dump since it all came out as piano on my card...
Probably didn't set the MIDI Channel to 10 for the drums?

Anyway... I'll figure it out.

Yeah, everything is on Channel 1... Not hard to fix though...
Anyways, now I can use some different sounds... should be fun. :)

Thanks a lot finster! :)
In fact, I didn't widened the field of the timpani, I guess that came through mastering... after a second distanced listening, I think I'll tweek a little on the bass :D

Thanks! Today I listened to it on an MP3 player and the keys did sound low. I might re-mix it and bring up the keys during the verse.

Okay just got all the files so I'm gonna start her up...
I've already decided to change out the Violin/Strings,
And may change the drums as well,
just for a little different flavor to it.

Okay... This is by no means not my final mix as I wouldn't necessarily call it a "mix" really... I just wanted to get some thoughts on the pad I traded in for the strings parts... Horrible or no? I see this as being a very ambient piece so I plan to mix it that way, in time...

I ditched the DI guitar and as mentioned the strings tracks...
I dup'd the "strings" and transposed up one octave...
Used a lot of delay throughout... Hopefully it isn't too distracting...
I really haven't touched most of the tracks.
I know I've still much more to do.
And yes it's a low kbps mp3.

Anyways I'd love some thoughts...

Hey ds21...
I like your mix...
I like the the way you have the verb on the vocals sorta grow throughout the song. Nice clean mix from what I can tell.

.

I love the ambience! Very nicely captured IMHO!

That's also a nice sound on the guitars but they're a bit in your face, as far as volume goes, which kind of ruins the ambient vibe.

My favorite mix so far! :)

Finster,
It worked fine for me on PTLE, auto-separated it all out onto seperate tracks and whatnot. Just wondering, where are you getting your drum sounds from?
BTW, Did I miss PMC9 or was that one of the "another kind of mix contest" deals.
Thanks again for doing this, maybe I'll actually get a mix together by the deadline this time. :(

Wow thanks Ipso... I wasn't expecting a good response... You made my day.
I agree about the guitar being to loud... I'll have to fix that this evening.
I didn't even realize it was so loud haha.

reshp1,

I believe he said the drum sounds were SampleTank (smothered in hall reverb)
I may be changing out the drums for NS_Kit sounds in my next mix.

Ah well I'll give it another go. I'm downloading with adsl, but I've only got 54MB left for the rest of the month, and that will probably be gone tomorrow, then I'm back to dialup speeds :S

I'll do it tomorrow.. Even if it takes a day or so....
