I record on a 424 mk 3, the problem i have is this poping noise i get in play back. I clean my heads and demag. them to. (often). it is a little better after i clean the heads, but only for about one or two min.I started to notice this a couple monthes ago and has gotten worse. If i play back tapes i recorded 3 months ago it is better, but i srill hear a faint poping at times. can this be from low humidity? I put a humidifier in the room last week and have not made any new tapes since, but still hear poping in the tapes i have receintly recorded.HELP!--thanks

Is this noise on the tape? Or does it occur in your headphones even without playback? You seem to think it is on the tape, but even the old tapes have a 'faint' popping. Sounds more like a bad connection than a problem with the heads.

I hear the poping with the headphonesand the speakers. Also i noticed it on playback after i mix it on the hard drive. maybe the air was very dry in the room when i recorded and it created a static pop on the tape?-----thanks, ken

I have read other posts in the past that refer to this popping phenomenon.

The previous threads seemed to elude to an actual tape brand and formulation which I think was from TDK. I don't remember which formulation it was, sorry.

What brand of tape are you using?

Cheers! :)

I'm useing TDK sm 30min. Come to think of it, I had no problem when i ran out of TDK and got some Radio shack tapes.any suggestions for tape brands?

THANKS YOU.

You should be ok sticking with TDK as a tape manufacturer but might switch to a different formulation like their classic SA formulation in a 60 minute length or, if you want to try a different manufacturer, give Maxell a try too and see if the problem goes and stays away.

Cheers! :)
