57's are not condensors.
Which mics? How many do you need? Ok so I heard you say that you'd like to track live stuff along with doing a CD, here's how I'd go about the live setup...
drums- A good kick drum mic (AT pro 25 or ATM25 or
Shure Beta 52) and some condensors (maybe the irrevered AGK C1000) as overheads. and a 57 on the snare.
guitar- yes a 57..
bass- get a direct box- go direct.
vox- for tracking live stuff a nice dynamic will be the best.
a SM-58 or (my fav)
an ATM-41HE. for studio a condensor would be better (NT-1 or 2 or hell-these too many out there to mention)
These are just my opinions on what would be good to start out with. IF the budget is real tight but still reasonable, an NT-1, 2 or 3 57's, and a pro 25 would be good.
Here's my meager mic collection, If this helps...
57's (x4)
Shure Beta 52
ATM41-HE
CAD-22
RODE NT-1
(roughly just over $800 worth of mics)
I close mic the drums and use the NT-1 as a single overhead, basically because I'm saving for a pair of SM-81's- and a AT 4050...
I consider my choices very limited, but, I make do, I have fun, and it still sounds good.
