i saw on the front of a tascam interface two buttons that supplied phantom power. the first button was for channels 1-4, the second 5-8. what if only a few mics require phantom power? is turning phantom on for the rest going to hurt the ones that dont need it/make noise/make them silent/anything? just curious...

do u mean: phantom power off>mute channel>plug mic in>turn phantom power ON> un-mute channel?

whoops, yes. don't plug a condensor in to a channel already powered up. don't unplug one without turning it off, too.

the channel mute thing is overkill but it never hurts.
