So I've been working on this song in 6/8 that kinda drifts in this swinging melody. Its one of the first things I have recorded with my new mics (MXL 990 and 991) and I'd like to know what you think.

...mixing
...balance between instruments

Anything constructive.

I'd love to hear what you think.
Thanks,
James

I think that's very pretty. I love the separation and the whole song in general. Excellent job.

thanks for the input.
always appreciated.
I had a fun time making it haha

You need to put some lyrics on this. It swings naturally and begs for some vocal performance. Nice melody, but really not quite enough to stand out without some vocals and some really great lyrics. That would take this song where it needs to go.

I'll keep an ear out for them when they come.

There's not a lot of glassiness in the high end...a critical componant of acoustic guitar sound...the 'schwingggg!' Did you EQ it out??

Love to hear a real upright on this. The guitar/bass loses it's punch and low end on the higher notes. [if that's what it is.]

Nice relaxing ride. Nice panning.

thanks again for the responses.

I've been thinking for quite some time now what lyrics to put with this.. I am not that great at the lyrical side of music, so I want to make sure I dont ruin it haha.

As for the EQ, i was doing a little experimenting, but i do agree there is a lack of high end for the main guitar. As for the bass, (i dont currently own one) I have been playing the part on my acoustic and then pitch shifting it down in Mixcraft. Not exactly the greatest quality, but it gives that nice raw feel... however with a lack of low response from the higher strings/frets.

Thanks again for listening

Nice playing...wish I could record my acoustic as well as this... EQ's already been mentioned..begs to be a song :)
