Yeah I've walked up and down the streets in Valletta. Been to the most tourist places while passing thru. Rode in/out on a Ferry. Also flew in/out. Been 2-3 times. We used to rent the apartments and go it used to be a beautiful city. Well, hopefully still is. Last I read about Malta it was getting in EU. The Pizza in Malta is still unrivaled.

Only thing I have to add is to say that now that you have your mix, can we have a lil more compression??? Especially on the drum buss, and the vocals!

Yeah, that's always my mantra around here, I know. I just happen to think that about the only thing that seperate us "home-recordists" from some of the big guys is our underuse of EQ and compression.

Well, I spend the childhood years in Libya (south of the Mediterranean ). LOL and Malta is small/cozy. You can like drive from one end to the other in like what 30 minutes? 45 tops! So when the EU ban hit on flying, we had to take a boat to Malta and take flights out of there. Libya was an Italian colony. So it is heavy under European influence.

Yeah, and the pizza was a big part of Malta/Italy experience. Absolutely, gotta love the old Roman and Catholic influence on architecture and the place. Always enjoyed the younger crowd walking around looking like Bon Jovi and many other 80s figures. That's also why I really enjoyed this song. Somewhat like Europe (the band) in places.

Spent a lot of time in Sardegna. Beautiful place.

Great sounding man. I hear a frequency in the bass that my ears dont like though. The bass guitar itself seems a bit too present somewhere in the mid lows (through my cans) and sort of thumps on my ear drum giveing me some listening fatigue. That given, it could be the headphones. Its the only thing that I can think of with the cans on. Good mix, great vocals and guitar sounds great. nice stuff mayte.

Where I grew up, south west of Sydney, was mini Malta (actually the satellite city is bigger than Malta). Had/have some excellent friends who serve the falcon. A cuisine to build strong, hardworking men on.
The song is terrific. The drums have been mentioned so I'll leave them. Barring that one, easily replaced issue, I think you have a very strong piece. All elements work toward the whole.
I'm a bit old to be an 80'sphile but I lived through it and this song/production/performance would make a lot of people very happy.

thanx for the comments! I always try to go sparingly with compression 'cause like we all know it puts the dynamics in danger.... But I'm gonna review the mix anyway, so I'll see what I can do

Yeah, that classic movie was pretty popular in Malta too, my dad always talked about it (he was a big Bogie fan!). It's definitely an interesting place to visit. We always have British and American navy vessels visiting the harbour every year. It's one of the most beautiful harbours in the world and when you see it you don't forget it.

Yeah, everybody remembers those dark days when the only european connection to Libya was Malta...we're not exactly very fond of Libyans
When you go for a drive in Malta, you've gotta be careful you don't run out of road and fall into the sea

if you look at the Mediterranean on a map, you'll find a tiny little dot right under Sicily (looks like a fly shit there....), that's Malta....

Slowjett, I'll check the bass out again. Actually after tracking is done, I hardly ever use cans to listen to mixes, 'cos I don't trust them. I played the mix on 4 different speaker systems and tried to find the middel way. But you're right I did boost the middle lows a bit, 'cos I wanted more beef down there..

Ray, you grew up in Sydney??? I've got about a 100 relatives there. The first ones emigrated there in the 50's. In the meantime, I think there are more Maltese in Aussie than in Malta itself!!

Ah yes, the drums......those infernal machines. Nothing beats real ones.
One is only as old as one feels...at least we try to convince our aging bodies of that! Actually my musical roots are more in the 70's, but the 80's were the years when I was most active and had the best times...

My guitars are an ESP vintage Strat with a Floyd Rose (I don't think they build them anymore) and a cheap LP copy (Jack'n'Danny) which I absolutely love (had better PU's installed and it sounds great). I do put chorus on my voice, but very carefully....I guess Bob played the solos and licks with his white strat (with all those dive-bombs )

In spite of my "WhiteStrat" moniker, I've been playing the heavier stuff with a different guitar as of late. For this one I used my black epi les paul with DiMarzio Evo (Steve Vai) pickups.
