cool song - nice singing Joey (I assume that's you?), and nice playing - 'strat! Very '80s AOR.

I think the vocals could come a bit.

Dude: rockin'.

The drums sound just a little like the snare could be packing more punch.

The gits are very very sweet sounding. Those solos, squeals sounds rockin'. Also the actual melody is really nice on the guitars.

That delay really makes it sound cool.

Another one just like I like em Joe. Nice Mindcrime type feel, great singing as per usual. WS, some excellent playing too. I thought the snare could use a little snap, but it's fine as is. Keep chugging these out dude. You rock.

Sounds cool guys. Very 80's. :D

I'm not a big fan of the drums in general. The programming is good. I just don't like the sounds very much.

Guitar playing and vocals are excellent.

Good job guys!

Great vocals. Yeah, I think they could come up a tad.

Excellent playing Strat. Love the effects. Lead solo is nicely done. I like how it changes up there.

Listening a second time with it cranked up in the cans. Maybe you can the vocals as they are....

great performances, great mix. Great song

Cheers,

Forgot to add the singing rocks. The vocals and the lyrics are very cool. :D

Hey, thanx to all of you for listening in!

Yep, it definitely has an 80's feel (oh, those roots....). Something like Journey meets Van Halen....
Yeah, Greg, real drums would be nice....:D
Yes, that's me screaming Antichef. I guess not bad for a guy with no hair and turning 50.....
Bubba, Riffmaster, I'm gonna review that snare to make it snap a little more.
Chilli, I'll see if I can get the vocals a tad more to the front. I was looking at making them sink nicely in the mix, maybe I should back off the reverb a bit, we'll see....

Once again, thanx for all your comments, I really appreciate it and I'm learning so much from you guys ;):D

Cheers
Joe

oh, yeah...and Bob really put the icing on the cake. Really love your guitar playing, man! Thanx again for all the time you took!;)

the guitar harmonies/riffs.....were they done on an Eventide?...No?....what did you use?
I love them!!!
Well done!!

Hi Superspit!

The rythm guitars were recorded with just an SM 57. I use a hybrid VOX AD30which gives me a choice of different amp simulations. I use 2 different guitars which gives me a bit more colour and record 2 tracks with each one panned right and left. I use the Andy Sneap method and route them all to a bus where i slap a C4 compressor on them and a room reverb. The harmonic leads are just 2, one with each guitar, with just one amp sound, again recorded with the SM 57. Both are again routed to a bus and EQ'd with the C4 and some delay. As to the main solo and the licks, White Strat can give you better info how they were recorded, 'cos he did those in his studio. I hardly touched them when I mixed them in, they were so perfect.....:D

Thanx for the nice comments!

Cheers
Joe

Yeah man...no worries!
Oh yeah..Joe, your voice fucking raaaaaawks!....Just downloaded the track, going into the car tonite.
I feel I'm in 1987 again...bless you bro!

Glad to be of help! I get plenty from you guys.... ;)
Fascinates me to think someone plays my music in his car in some other part of the world...:)

What do you use

Hello Joey

I listened to the track on my H/phones while at work, very pro, but i'll listen at home on some decent monitors, later.

It's the first time I've bothered to listen to any tracks from forum members - Impressive, I'll do some more.

I'm as interested in the recording production as in the music. A few people have critcised the drums for programming and sound, but that wasn't an issue with me. I'd like to know what you've used for the drums; is it all programming or a selection of drum loop samples. If it's programming; do you use software or a hardware drum machine.

Can you provide some info on what you did at the mix stage in terms of compression etc.

good work and good luck

Rob

Hey, Rob!
Thanx for listening in. I can tell you the mp3 clinic is better than any radio show! There are some awsome musicians that contribute here and we all learn from each other.
The drums were programmed with Battery 3 using a mix of its own samples and others which were free to download on the internet. The notes are all programmed individually using the MIDI editor in Samplitude. I've never attempted to use loops up to now, though that wouldn't be a bad idea.
I never put a compressor or EQ on the master while mixing. If the individual tracks need compression or EQ, I process them individually. After the mix was done with peak around -10 db, I put a dehisser, a MB compressor, a single band compressor and a limiter to increase volume. But all these effects were used sparingly. One important thing I've learned here is that the mix has to be good, before attempting to do any mastering. I spend more time now on every individual track than I used to do before and I think it pays off. Hope this was interesting info for you.

Cheers :)
Joe
