OK in car but not on PC speaker- mixing ideas needed

I just finished mastering my first song. When I play it in my car it soundd awesome. It's kinda like FM radio music with hot bass and drums, etc. And high ends too. I use quite a few CDs to compare and mine is, in my opinion :D , comparable to some very good "quality" CDs.

However, when I try it on my PC, the booms are barely noticable and only high ends are there. I also play my reference CDs on the PC but they still have the bass and everything. What's going on? What did they do that I didn't?

Thanks in advance.

thats the first sign of needing to get decent reference monitors.......

i figure - are most people gonna be listening on really really crappy PC speakers? or will they bet listening on at least some kind of stereo system speakers?

The answer is Waves MaxxBass. :D

Seriously, it produces a kind of low end that will be heard on lesser-quality speakers too. I tried mixing the bass in a song using this plug-in and it actually sounds really good on the monitor-mounted speakers on the computer I am at now (what are they, 1"?). Without the plug-in, the bass more or less disappeared.

I thought you were asking us this shackrock, and then I realized you were telling him how you thought it through....

but yeah 4ever, it's defintely nice to get monitors that allow you to translate mixes over various systems..... although personally, I have yet to hear an album that really sounds good through the default speaker systems that come with computers.

It's probably because you scooped all the middle frequencies out and your computer speakers don't have much bass response. Put the mids back in and the low mids will help reinforce the bass on crappy speakers.

You could put some computer speakers in your studio to use as a reference during mixing.

Thank you all.

TexRoadkill, I think you answered my question.
BTW, I'm using Tannoy studio monitors.
I think every music sounds good with the car stereo system. :D

Even though your problem is solved - just have to give my comment, too

I think Tex and to Oysterman are absolutely right...

I also had the problem for quite some time. The proper way is surely to fix it in the mix, but the BassMaxx might also be of some help. It creates harmonics on the sub-frequencies, and by nature of the game you'll recognize a note as low even if you can hear only one and two octaves higher...
