NTrack Volume Question

When I'm listening to my keyboard track w/headphones, recording a drum track along with it, I need to turn the keyboard volume up to where I can clearly hear it. When doing so, the volume of the drums I'm currently recording also increases signifigantly.

Is there a way I can turn up the volume of the existing track in the computer without turning the volume of the new track I'm recording up?

I'm using NTrack and an Audiophile 2496 soundcard. I'm sure it's a simple fix I've overlooked... Any advise? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also.... Can anyone offer some layman's terminology on how to assign effects to "part" of a track instead of the whole track & how to pan NTrack tracks?

Thanks....

Set up your intended track, arm it for record and hit the monitor button (all in the record dialog box under the record VU meters). With the mixer dialog open, hit play and adjust the relative levels of your incoming instrument with the previously recorded stuff untill you are satisfied.Hit the big red button and rock.
The "standard" method of drawing volume evolutions and effects is laid out in the manual but I have another suggestion.Copy the track to be effected and drag the edges of the track to size it appropriately to the section you want.Activate your effect in the box under the individual track fader in the mixer dialog and set it up as you want.Use the fader to blend with the original track.
The pan knob is just under the fader. There is a nice help file you obviously haven't bothered to read.Do a little homework on this and things will be clearer.
