Spread the Daf!
...........here's another Christmas song. This is What Child is This but not the tradional version. I pretty much had a glass of scotch (well...........maybe two :D) and went at it. I did it 3 times and I think this is the third take. The drums are my XP-60 and I'm playing the bass through a J-Station.

What Child is This....2nd song

awesome.. that's all I can say...

when I dabbled with this song, I didnt have a copy of it, so I had to figure it out by memory.. It seems I hacked it because this sounds like the real version.. you should make a whole CD of you doing Christmas tunes..

You gotta sing some too!! :)

excellent! really liked it..

It's always interesting to see how well things that are in 3 translate to being in 4, and this is yet another fine example. Cool treatment of it, and your tone and playing is spectacular, as always.

<I really gotta get on those re-recordings....> :)

Cheers,
Phil

So.....I just poured myself a tall Crown Royal Hi-Ball....

so I can play and record like this....

three you say....hmmmm...

if I have six it'll be twice as good....right?? :D

Damn man...you wail.....

Merry Christmas (again :D )

cha cha cha.... I liked it... great midi sax again;)

Cool!

I could see this as well as your previous offering on the Perry Como Christmas Special (Featuring Lt. Bob)

You Frickin' scream man!

Of all your playing I've listened to so far, this is by far my favorite. Very (very) tasteful playing.

A good kazoo sound too. :)

Lt. Bob, I've seen you around here, but last night was the first time I checked out your stuff. While not exactly my "type" of music, I'd have to say yours are my new favorite songs from the clinic. I made my girlfriend sit and listen to about three of them last night. That horn sounds so good, man. I wish I had that kind of control over my guitar. Your voice on that old blues song rocks too. Your christmas tunes will be getting some play around my house for years to come. "If I only had some pot" had me cracking up, and I especially liked the one old four track that said from 25 years ago. I love it all, man. I can FEEL it.

I like the sax playing a lot, plus the sound's great. I don't like the Mel and the Meltones backing, though.

I love the tone on your sax after the intense bit, about 2.50 or so. I liked the sax sound before that, but at that 2.50 point, you're dipping into sax nirvana. Paul Desmond territory. I'm starting to think more and more that music's all about the *sound*.

A different backing, and you're sniffing around Coltrane's Favorite Things. Simple. What Child is This is one of those timeless melodies that works with loads of treatments. The danger is that you can get fooled into thinking that it's working when it isn't.

Okay, I'm drunk and that's why I'm being so blunt, but I'll tell you what. I'll go to bed. If I wake up early enough, I'll go buy that guitar and do you a backing. I really love this song, and I really love your sax playing.

And *you* thought you weren't content to leave well enough alone...

Hey dobro'''''''I'd love it. If you do a backing for it; I can put it with the sax in my mix so let me know.

Wow. That's a midi sax? It sounds to good to be midi. Maybe I should start drinking. :)

Ya man,sweet!
What a vibe!

I really dig your improv work on this LT.
To be able to take a sweet Christmas song and totally wail it up,but still keep it's integrety, now That's talent!

I had to let my wife hear it,one of her faves, and she loves the sax!
You now have two groupies!:D

I love the way you went mello at 2:52,sweet!
And those little bongo snippets on the right were cool.
The sax sound was so overwelming, you almost miss the fact that the bass is killer too!
Great tones and playing.

Really fine work, thanks for sharing it!

Happy Holidays,
Pete

another nice version of this tune. nxds also just did a great totally different version of this. worth checking out.

The sax tone is pretty damn convincing. I didn't know midi could do that kind of thing. I also agree with the drunken dobro's comment about after 2:50, things get a little less coltrane and a little more Kenny G-ish. well, maybe not that bad but a little too much flair for my taste.

A very good version, indeed.

Miles

"Midi sax"---yeah, right! :D I'm sorry, folks, but you are listening to the real deal!

You, Bobster, are just too damn talented for this planet. Why the radio is filled with hacks instead of your golden sax is a tragedy of modern times. The other tragedy is that we don't have a damn band to go out playing with every night. Before i die, I'm "Goin' Down Louisiana" and we are gonna drink beer, eat shrimp and crawdads (yipes!) and maybe some filet gumbo and make some incredible music.

OK, folks--I was kidding about this being a real sax. Anybody who's done the Golden Ears course knows that its an electrified kazoo through a Great River Preamp. I mean, its obvious--you can't get these tones from a horn!

Okay, it's 24 hours later or so. I woke up this morning and remembered what I'd written. Now, let's see if I've got this right - I was kind of insulting and boasting all at the same time. Furphuxache. You know, I just don't get it - I don't mind seeing the less attractive side of myself (I'm used to it by now) but I would have thought I had the brain not to display it so openly on a public bulletin board for anybody to see...

I still think it's a beautiful song and your sax playing is great. At least I got something right. As for the backing... yeah, I owe you one. I don't know if I can do justice to your playing though. I really drop myself into it sometimes. I'll forgive me if you do. :D

Anyway, I'm listening to it as I write - have you ever heard this story about reed instruments - that sound of sad longing has got to do with the reed itself - it's longing for the reedbed it was plucked from, cut from, taken away from. Yeah, I can recognize a cute tale when I hear one, but I think one is more true than symbolic. I've listened to it eight times - it makes sense now - I think you squared the circle on this one. You wanna produce my next album? :D

BTW, who did the drums and percussion and bass etc? Is that all you?

Damn, I wish you would actually *read* what I write. LOL

Don't drag me into your mistakes. I'm too busy trying to get myself out of mistakes I've dragged my own self into. LOL

LMFAO :D
Hey dobro.........you weren't insulting at all. I agree about the backing tracks. Real instruments would have been nice....oh wait; that was a real bass. :D
Everything else was done in my keyboard. I would love to have some guitar on it and I just didn't take the time. I thought of doing some but I was too anxious to put the song up. So if your muse strikes....feel free to play aroung with this. If you wanted; I could send you whatever type of mix you might want to play along with.
