I bought a new MIM telecaster the other day. A beautiful ash body in high gloss.
Every thing was great great for a while after setting the neck action till the neck pick up starting fading in and out. There was major hum and hissing I called the GC and they said I would have to exchange for a new non ash tele or ship it back to fender. I decided not to waste any gas or time with those fools.

Any way I tore it apart and did the full shielding treatment complete with soldering the copper tape. Installed some extra grounding and applied foil underneath the pickguard. I also resoldered the pickup wires while I had it open.
Wow what a difference it is quiter than my AM strat and LP now.

The only problem is I can hear the true quaility of the pick ups and I need to get something with a bit more output and quality.
What do you guys use for your tele pickups? I've heard some good things about the Bill Lawrence pickups anyone had any experience with them.
It looks like there are 2 different places selling different versions.

im a big fan of the dimarzio twang King set for teles. Kinda like a vintage noiseless, but way more expressive. I wouldnt go too high output or you will lose the true escence of the tele..... But maybe ya play high gain all the time and it doesnt matter what guitar ya got.

Good luck! Is it heavy as a brick? Most of the latest MIM teles are pretty hefty.

Yes she is a big girl.
I don't use a lot of gain but the current pickups require be to turn my Marshall 100w up almost half way to get decent output. I think they skimped on this special edition that is why it has no conductive paint in the cavities a limited edition of 400 for GC probably.
I'll look into the dimarzio's I use their cables and they are a great bang for the buck.

There are 2 Bill Lawrence pu's being marketed. One is by him and another by an ex business partner. I have the genuine Bill Lawrence pus in a guitar and a bass and they are very good. quiet and reasonably priced. The only complaint I had was they are not always available off the shelf, I had a 3 week wait, but I knew that when I got them. Unlike many big companies you are just as likely to deal with either Bill or his wife when you order which is a bit more personal. Go to www.billlawrence.com
