Don't stare at the eye.
This is always my favorite part--setting up for a new session. It's hard to see 'em with all the crap in the background, but I've got 5 of my preferred vocal mics ready to audition. It may end up being none of these--but I'll bet I could pick which one it will be. In any case, I'm looking forward to finding the best mic and dialing it in.
From left to right:
1) a very neutral to ever-so-slightly bright condenser
2) a world class dynamic
3) a slightly more bright than #1 condenser
4) a very warm ribbon mic
5) a thicker, more "rootsy" condenser
Of course, we're supposed to have some wicked weather here--snow, ice, and general wintery death--so the session might not happen at all. If it doesn't, I'll do a spoken word test just for kicks and grins and post the various tracks.
