New Bass - Ibanez or Yamaha?

Thanks, guys. So if all EQ is active, does that mean that the Yamaha (and any other bass) also takes a battery? And for that matter, why don't my 6-string guitars use batteries, too? Excuse my ignorance, but...

Well it depends entirely upon the guitar or bass. The Yamaha doesn't have an EQ in it, and therefore does not require a battery. The basic rule is that if the guitar has an EQ on it (which will probably also have a preamp), then it probably has a battery. Some guitars don't have any electronics onboard, but do have a pickup installed. These guitars generally require the use of an external preamp (which will have EQ controls).
