Freakin' old microphone I had. Neumann U47 or something like that. Dropped it once and it stopped working. Guy I bought it from wouldn't give me my fifty bucks back, either.

;)

OB

(seriously, though, the only thing I have bought that I have just found to be unusable was an old "pitch-to-midi" software product that didn't seem to provide any useful results no matter how much tweaking you did)

Kurz SP-88 - not a decent sound on it (might make an okay controller, though)

Alesis Sanctuary QS Card - bunch of stoopid sounds

sample disk off ebay (this company sells them new there all the time - forget the co's name, but disk is pure crap)

Compaq Presario anything - what unreliable trash. Never again.

Purchased an Alesis Studio 32. 3 months after the warranty expired, so did the mixer. Turned it on one day ... ALL the lights came on & stayed on .......... smoke came out of it. We all know that electronic equipment operates on smoke. It's just hidden inside the wiring & once it comes out .... no more worky. Repair shop said it would be about $400.00 bucks to fix it. Heck, that was half of what it cost to buy it! I've bought lotsa stuff since then, but not from Alesis!

I'm right there with ya man! That must be a lucky number or something because 3 months after my warranty expired something blew in my Studio32. I didn't see smoke, but I could smell it. I took it to what used to be an authorized Alesis repair shop to have it fixed. Luckily it only cost me $120 to get fixed, but it was still bullshit to begin with. I never really used the Alesis other than for recording the occasional overdubs and summing all of my audio gear to my monitors. They just weren't built to last I guess.

DO NOT BUY an Alesis 3630 compressor..
................UNLESS:

1) you like your compressor to "pump and
breathe" like Darth Vader AFTER an
hour on the StairMaster....
2) you like to hear your gate "chatter" like
those fake wind-up teeth that clatter
across the table-top after you crank
the key a few turns...
3) you like your mixes (or signals) to
sound like dog poop on a dirty brown
boot.....

but,..other than that....:D :) :D :)

P.S. i actually own and use (and LIKE) QUITE A FEW Alesis products. this one (the 3630) i bounced off the wall, kicked the crap out of, swore at profusely, directed rude finger gestures at and FINALLY traded for a handful of guitar picks and a guitar strap.:D

Radio Shack 33-4033! Some of you guys actually use these *for mics*? I feel your pain, brother, here's a quarter.
BTW, I like my Rolls RA62HA just fine, thank you very much.

I concur. Peavy is junk. I had a Paevy guitar amp... shoulda learned my lesson. Recently needed a phantom power supply and bought a Peavy I have basically rebuilt it using only the crappy chassy. replaced the wall wort xformer, replace the voltaqe regulator circuit with something that didn't introduce power supply ripple, etc., etc.

Anything with the name Radio Shack connected with it in any way is crap.

Bah! Not all Peavey amps suck. I'll swear by the Peavey Deuce II - The only Peavey amp I ever enjoyed playing through.

*The Deuce II is nothing like the 80's Deuce combo. The Deuce II is a 120-Watt 6L6 tubed monster. A little hard to find nowadays, but it's well worth it in my book*

Oh, cool! A thread about bad equipment!

My mistake was buying an Alesis 1622 mixer back when they had decent reviews and not much bad was said about them. The trim pots started getting dirty and going bad, and channels went out. I won’t ever buy another Alesis product. After that, I went and bought a Mackie and ended my suffering.

I've had 2 Peavey Renown's the past 15 years... (first one got ripped off).... Everyone that heard it wanted to borrow it or play through it, even the ones with expencive stacks...

I bought a DIXON wah pedal once, and in fact still have it. The damn thing fell apart the first time my foot touched it. They didn't tighten the stupid pot properly, so it literally fell out. I was left to try and figure out how to put it back together, I think I put it too tight cause the pot got a litte *stretched*, and it now has a permanent scratchieness to it.

Thats at least two diferent items of musical flavour I have bought that were *pre-broken*...wtf...who is in charge of quality control?

my vote goes to...

The Alesis ADAT Edit card! But you knew that already...

stay clear of

Hosa cables, Radio shack cables, Phillips CD recorders, Castlewood harddrives, Tascam PCI-822, Zoom 234 drum machines, EMU darwin, Tascam TMD-1000, Art tube, & Gateway computers

I'm starting to not like some of my Behringer stuff, it is noisy as fuck. But what can a person expect for minimal $?
