the shop i used to tech for had a guy reconing full time.... saw 3 different guy's in the 15 yrs i was there all of them were card carrying idiots... so how hard could it be... the real trick is to get anal about cleaning the gaps... and then shimming the voicecoil in place till the glue dries....
I just reconed some BAs that I've had since the mid 80s.
The key is to center the voice coil over the magnet with appropriately spaced spacers (little pieces of index card or paper).
I purchased a kit from newfoam.com that included an instructional video. It was a little overpriced, now that I know that the individual components of the kit are really really cheap when purchased individually, but it was worth the extra few bucks to know that I had everything I needed.

did you recone or refoam? from what i've read so far (thanks true), reconing involves replacing the voice coil and spider in addition to the surround and dust cap. i have a spare 6 1/2" woofer that i'm thinking about blowing just so i can take it apart and see what the damage is.
