I'm the FOH engineer on a theatre tour, and the lightning guy took me to a demonstration of WYSIWYG the other day...cool stuff.

he bought his copy because he ownes a big lightning company and this way he can show his clients what they are going to get......it is expensive indeed, but so is recording equipment.

Cool features like even the weight of the whole setup is calculated....got to beat those inspection guys one way or the other!

well, I am finishing my MFA in lighting design, and I want to be a concert lighting designer. It's been my dream for years, and those doing the work told me to get WYSIWYG and learn it well.

That's what I'll be doing!

How does one get into the lighting for concerts business?
(You know, because this is a forum for recording...)

Any tips?

Most lighting gigs are with the companies that rent out the gear. Most shows have their own designer but they will often hire the operators and programmers from the rental house. You can get work with some of the smaller regional rental companies that do a lot of corporate and trade show work. Most of the national companies are in LA or New York areas.

am i the only one that got hosed by this guy?

has anyone received anything from him?

hope you're enjoying my money, jim.

dammit, the board won't let me edit my last message.

Do not think ill of Jim. He's explained to me what happened on his end, and we're taken care of. He even bought a brand new mic at the store and is shipping it out to replace the lost one.

So, I take back anything negative i've said about Jim...

Jimmy, I e-mailed you. Let me know if you still have the stuff I asked about.

Thanks! :)
