My Buddy / co writer. Had an freak accident where He can no longer play, record, or work a computer. before the accident he backed up files from his projects (cakewalk) half of them aiff files, no problem. Half of them are CWB, logic 8 says what the **** are these. mac says no application to open. Any ideas its some kind of bundle file. I would like to mix and master them in logic for Him. All He can do is listen now. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Bill

Any chance you could leave a file in a drop box?
One of us is bound to have the right software.
Give my best to your friend. :)

Hey Jim, Thanks for your response. I will certainly do so. Just how? Thanks again.
P.S Its not coming up like multiple files ( or tracks) it just comes up as an icon that nothing can open. Ive converted files before, Ive never seen this CWB though.

.CWB is a Cakewalk (or Sonar) bundle file. Basically it is an encapsulated/self contained project that can only be opened in Cakewalk or Sonar. Maybe your friend has a copy of Cakewalk or Sonar on his computer that you could use to open them.

Even a "Word" document will give you the same response if you don't have "Word" installed on your computer.
If you post the file somewhere and keep bumping this thread then one of the Wizards here (not me) will open it for you and tell you what you need.
I use Savefile.com (or something like that)
Open an account.
Drop a file or two in there, post the address on this thread and Robert's your mother's brother.
We all pop in, grab the file and take it into our studio PCs or Mac's.
Shouldn't take too long.

There you go.
You can download a trial version of any number of Sonar applications.
I did it a few days ago.

Hey Jim,
Your the best!!!! I just downloaded sonar 7 on my PC. looks like it found the info on the cd rom opened the files. looks like all the tracks came up. error message says could not find some plug ins, and I had no audio during play back. Not worried about that I want to do this on the MAC. I down loaded pentagon and vst plug ins, possibly these are the plug-ins its looking for. Next step is to do the same on my mac. PC was a test I guess. Is there an order of download that I should follow on the mac to make this runs smooth. I think what I did on the PC was the two plug-ins first then sonar. So I want to make sure I do this right on the Mac. 15 day trial should be enough time. Very cool!! You have know idea what this is going to mean to Him thank you very much! All My best Bill

Glad to be of help but ErichS is the one to thank. :)
Spotted it in a heartbeat.

Thanks ErichS,
And thanks Jim,
I will try this on the mac tomorrow and get back to you guys. Again it means a lot to Him. Thanks
BTW CWB = Cakewalk Bundle. Oh I got it!!

I'm glad Jim and i could could help. I hope this works out for you.

He's lucky to have a friend like you.

Thanks Nocarsgo,
I still owe Him for a bag of french fries He bought me 35 years ago.
Now I just have to figure out how to lift the tracks and move them into logic.:)

I usually save each track as .wav.
Basically, I go into the song. "Solo" track one, "Save as" ... .wav 24/44.1 mono, then track 2, 3 and so on.
When I'm done, I simply start a new project in whichever DAW I want and import the tracks one at a time.
Recently, I've taken to doing this with every project. I immediately take each track into Wavelab for a good clean up before editing. Time consuming I know but I'm getting much cleaner mixes and less surprises.

No help here but wanted to pass on some props to you as a friend. And to your pal, some best wishes for makin the best of a shitty situation.
Thoughts and prayers man...;)

Hey Folks,
I actually found an old friend who's running Cakewalk/sonar 8. He's aware of the circumstances and He is going to convert the audio tracks for us. The midi I guess I'm going to lose (being third party) but Logic has some great stuff I can fill in with. But most of all I want to thank all of you for your input and concern. I posted on a couple of other pages, and none can compare to this one. As always very cool people here! Thank you all very much. I'll let you know how they turn out ;) Peace Bill
