I have been using two shure b4.1s for drum overheads, but lately all the talk on this forum has been about marshall 603s. I know they are cheaper, but of course I want the best sound for my overheads. Should I keep my shures or should I sell them and get some 603s?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

P.S. - The shures sound okay for OHs, but I've never compared them to anything else so wouldn't know how good/bad they are.

While they do sound good for their price, I doubt they would be a step up in quality for overheads....just make sure you are getting the best out of the Shures by using good preamps and experimenting with mic placement....

I think you should get the 603s anyway. After all, you'll never know if you like them until your try them and compare them with your Shure mics. It would be worth it to have 2 extra mics around anyway... you could have one set on the overheads, and use the others for a guitar track, without the hassle of moving the mics around. True, you can never have enough mics, but without knowing what other mics he has and what applications he uses them for, we cant start to recommend what he should get...the applications that you can use the 603's for arent all that far from what you use the 4.1's for....If he just wants to add to his mic collection, look into something he doesnt have....
