I think you are asking if the connections should be balanced or unbalanced. It really depends on what equipment you have and what kind of input and output jacks they have.....balanced is probably preferred, but unbalanced will work just fine in most cases.

Neither.
Never seen USB monitors before but what a great idea.
Simply go into your DAW and set your preferences to "Line Out, M1Active 320 USB". Something like that. It will offer you the choice.
You can also hook them up to your computer line out. So a stereo jack pin which splits to a L & R RCA "Y".
If you are going to go from the Presonus to the speakers using the 1/4" jacks then go balanced but I doubt that it matters very much.

im using cubase le and it seems to only let me use the outputs of the firestudio project. maybe because its the light version? i have looked everywhere to try and change the outputs to usb

any more ideas

I haven't hooked up my Cubase 4.
I do have Cubase 5 on the studio PC.
The line Out settings for that one are not in the DAW itself. (I think)
I access that one through the Start Menu, ...All Programs, ...Steinberg Cubase and it's in there.
Does the Presonus have its own virtual console?

im using mac osx. the interface does have its own console software but i can see anyway of routing it to the usb speakers. will have another look

really appreciate the help given so far

Maybe start a new thread. "Presonus, Line Out?"
Lot's of folks have them.
