Believe me Regebro I HAVE had monitors before.
...and what, they sounded too good so you had to get rid of them???

I repeat... Big Yikes!!!

No offense Cyan but I wouldnt use your friends music as evidence of the superiority or even functionality of mixing through headphones. The 2 songs I heard were very campy in writing and tone quality.

All canned sounds to boot!!!

I cannot recommend headphones for mixing at all! No matter the quality, it will not translate with "real" sounds. For checking for noise, and possible "exact" stereo placement, yes. MAYBE for SOME tonal adjustments, sure. But overall, two thumbs down.

Campy! Ha! That is a word I haven't heard for awhile. Great descriptive though. Fucking canned sounds......Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

i have a question. if i am mixing down to my home stereo system, and i am using my bookshelf speakers as monitors, can i cut the high and low end on the eq to help compensate for the speakers? sorry if this was already posted.

Well, I've heard about this site, the infants that dwell here . . .

So what the heck are you doing here? Educating the infants? Geez

/O

Cathy, I'm in awe of your greatness! Teach me the ABC's
on montoring,mixing and recording!
I always want to learn from the great 1's, seeing that I'm all alone obscured from the music world!
I love you Cathy!

I'll ignore your earlier asinine comments Cathy and simply ask you what kind of recording set-up you use
and how do you monitor your mixes.

<whistle blows> OK, guys. Chill a sec... I think you are being a BIT hard on Cathy. She has an opinion (one I don't agree with either) but let's raise the level of discussion back up to pros and cons of monitors and away from just insults, 'k?

Pros of Monitors :
- much faster to get the sound you want on all systems
- easy on the ears

Cons of Monitors :
- cost a few bucks more

Right?

I guess the question is - how much are you worth? Is it worth your time spending an extra 6 or 8 hours on every mix because you have to keep burning CDs and trying them on different systems? For the price of my YSM-1s (<$200 US) I save quite a bit of time when doing mixes and when reviewing sounds, etc. That was well worth it to me - I do this as a hobby and it has to fit in among my paying jobs. The monitors make it much easier to fit it in....

Christ . . .

Thanks OldGrover but, this is pathetic. I was warned about this site and fuckin' god damn if they weren't right. Misterque you will never amount to anything. Good work, keep it up. Blue Bear, Why are YOU here? There are so many top notch recording websdites you could be on.You should know better than to hang around on a website like this with a bunch of kiddies and rank amateurs. Find a pro site. A site were you can interact with other pro recording engineers. Or are you too addicted to the blowjobs you get from eveyone here? It IS so much fun being a big man the little kids, isn't it.
I leave you with this thought.

DON'T WORRY, YOU CAN MAKE GOOD SOUNDING RECORDS ON SUB-PAR EQUIPMENT.

See Ya, morons . . .

Goodness Cathy, thats alot of hostility :D All we're doing is taking you to task for some clearly amateur and inexperienced notions that you have about recording. I think just about everyone here has mixed at least once (if not several times) on home speakers and can attest to the fact that you WILL not get accurate translatable mixes that way.. without endless back and forth referencing to other systems and even then its a dubious bet. There is clearly nothing like the clarity of decent moitors. Maybe home speakers work for you and if they do... post a clip of your work....please, baby...I promise Ill give it a fair trial. I for one am in agreement with you that there are instances where you can get great sound on cheap gear.. and there is no question that 85% of production is in the quality of the engineer not the gear. So lets hear what home speakers can do. :)

Cathy - If you heard what a crap site this was and what morons that dwell here, why the hell did you come here? Where did you hear such foul things about this site? Did FT tell you (is that you pops)? Why did you start your career here with picking a fight with anything that moves? Finally, why don't you go butt-fuck yourself with a broken bottle?

Just leave us for now and come back when you're ready to listen.

Id rather see her masturbate with a chainsaw....but further discussion on that matter should be brought to the Cave...

It must be that "TIME" of month for her!

Uhhh Cathy, as far as my son and daughter is concerned, I've accomplished everything I set out for! To them, I am their hero and superstar and likewise
they're proud of me and me of them! That's my primary concern. So don't come with the bo'sh#t that I won't amount to anything. As long as I've done my job with them, I AM SOMEBODY!
Step-off home-gurl and get a job at Radio-Whack!
'Nuff said
Mr.Q

......And, don't let the door slam you where the sun don't shine!

.......ya gotta love the testosterone on this Board.....

..... women and children stay home .... :D ....

Testosterone has noting to do with it. There are women and children here that are managing just fine. It's all about the attitude...

Per definition, if you can consistently make good recordings on it is not "sub-par".
So, sorry, despite all that anger, you are STILL totally wrong. It might be that you are trying to say something else. Maybe you are trying to say that you can make good recordings on CHEAP equipment. That is completely true. But although that might be what you want to say, you are saying something else.

(Of course, this largely depends on what you mean with "good" and "cheap", but thats another discussion.)
