Monitors - why do I need them?!

I'd put a pair of Yorkville YSM-1 (at $200/pr) ahead of any budget consumer speaker you care to name!

Home-studio or not doesn't matter if one is trying to improve their sound and mixes, right?

Bruce

Get some radio shack stuff

well, if you're trying to be the god of sound, sure, I guess, go out and buy a pair of whatever you want. I'm just saying it doesn't matter THAT much. So, be mister sound man, whatever.

Give me freakin' break!

Are you for real????????

Bruce

I'm not upset at all...

...I just can't believe what you're posting!
(you see, the idea here is to help people)

Bruce

Somebody bitch slap her....Im pulling my hair out right now trying to mix on home stereo speakers.....its not going well...Id gladly pay for Yorkville's, but the kids need shoes, momma needs a car.....

Anyway, even though Im doingit now myself, ID NEVER, EVER reccommend doing it...it sucks......

From now on I'm gonna mix with monitors plus speakers plus cheap PC-speakers plus clock-radio plus headphones :)
Gotta buy me a switch, hell yeah :)

Cathy has the whole recording/monitoring process down pat! Every-1 here should take her advice and get some Radio Whack speakers and judge your mixes thru them!
Obviously she know's what's she's talkin' 'bout!
3 cheers for Cathy!!!!!!
Don't listen to Bruce/Blue Bear Sound! He has absolutely no recording skills or knowledge of recording what-so-ever!

BUUURRRPPP!.............'scooze me!

If you're tearing your hair out trying to mix on consumer speakers than I think you have a problem. Try again, this time DON'T tell yourself "I can't mix without super expensive monitors!" Either that or just keep tearing your hair out.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. Good monitors DOES make a big difference. You'll understand when you get some.

Of course you CAN mix on your cheap home speakers too. And if you don't have the dough to by good montiros, thos will HAVE to do. But that is another thing completely than saying that monitors are a waste of money. They aren't. Good monitors will make it much easier to do a good mix, because they make your mix sound like it really sounds. Buying my Tannoys reveal Actives was like putting on glasses.

It's that simple.

Duh

See,Misterque, it's that kind of thinking that'll keep you in obscurity for the rest of your life. You-can't-do-this-if -you-don't-have-that. If you believe that you're a complete idiot. Who cares what mister big studio man says! You have what you have. Quit bitchin' and just make the best out of it. Yes, you can learn many things on crummy equipment, but you don't learn anything by telling yourself a buch of lies.
Oh, and the person who suggested someone bitch slap me . . . Well, I've heard about this site, the infants that dwell here . . . I guess you're my first encounter.
It would be nice if we could discuss varying opinions without suggesting personal acts of violence.

oh my god . . .

Believe me Regebro I HAVE had monitors before. What the hell do you think brought me to this conclusion? But that's okay, don't stop believing . . .

I assume what brought you to that conclusion is inexperience, because that is the only way you COULD reach that conclusion.

Bye a couple of Reveal Actives, and put on glasses, you too.

So what's next on the agenda there Cathy?

...you going to insist it is possible to produce commercial recordings with a Porta2, Wal-mart mic, and battery powered Radio Shack mic pre... all the while mixing on $15 walkman headphones???

Ok, since you came to this site, Ill assume you are a musician...your lack of intelligence would lead me to believe that you are a drummer, but you could actually string words into a complete sentence, so that rules out drummer.....So I'm stumped....

Anyway, I get a little frustrated getting a mix sounding right on my "monitoring system", burning a CD, listening to it on a few other systems, finding out Im lacking highs a bit, going back and readjusting it, burning a CD, finding the highs made the cymbals harsh as hell, going back and adjusting.....etc, etc....
You get the picture.....

Yeah, eventually I get where Im going, but I feel like Im walking all the way around the block to get next door.....

Well....I think Cathy should post her brilliant radio shack mixes on this here bulletin board for the gullable and foolish- studio speaker buyin public- so they can judge for themselves which way to go. heh. Im sure theyll sizzle anything anybody mixed ever did on PS6s, mackies or cost effective yorkvilles. :D

Aw hell...

...probably just FT on a schizoid frenzy again. (Cathy, I mean...)
