I tried........just not my style, not that there is anything wrong with it, just puts me on edge listening to it......I suck at being impartial.

lol that's where I'm at too...

I think I'm sitting at a pretty good drum mix, and I'm hammering the guitars out to where I want them... But as soon as I put the vocals into the mix it's like I'm taking a deep breath swimming to the bottom of the pool to find my keys or something... Can't stay there too long without coming up for some air...

... I found the harsh spot on the guitars I think. Remixed everything. You can hear the seperate guitar parts better now and the bass. Kick is more dominant, and it helps everything sound punchier I think?? Brought the vocals down. Just hope I didn't go to far in the oposite direction...lol
As I listen...

Bass seems way to strong... definitely dominate

the kit balance is a lot better than what I remember...

the vocals are definitely taking a back seat... maybe too much

OK here goes! In case anyone is confused, this isn't official judging, that only comes after the deadline (if there is one) has passed. These are hopefully helpful comments you can use to make your final version better :) so these might sound harsh, but have *zero* bearing on actual judging :o

Listening backwards:

gitRhero: Bring the low end, especially bass, under control. Guitars could be more prominent in places.

Perdicament: Tinny. Add some balls, and you'll be close.

Keiffer: Nice. Good imaging, good balance. Maybe the drums could be . . . not wider, it almost sounds like they have a stereo effect on them, but more natural panning. Try to control the bass a little more.

NL5: Good guitars. Vocals I can't decide if they are too prominent.

timboz: Sounds dark and distorted, and pumping pretty bad Sorry :(

Dogman: Interesting. Sort of an '80s style metal mix with '00s music. It could work . . . cymbals sound unnatural, like there is too much high shelf boost or something. Kick is tubby. Contentrate on a classic melodic sound, see where it goes . . .

scypior: Sounds like a "telephone" intro that never opens up. Some interesting ideas on the vocal mix, needs better execution.

BentRabbit: Sorry dude, this sounds like the bass player's cue mix :(

bigwillz24: see above, except it's the drummer's cue mix :(

Okay...

I've considered the input from mshilarious and took another listen. Yikes, my toms were centered! I can't believe I missed this. Thanks again.

Also, a few other really small tweaks

Look for: HR Mix #1 v3

Sorry guys, I have not given this thread much attention. I have been sick for the last few days with a head cold.
I'm home sick today and and was playing around in the basement and nothing sounds right to me.

Thanks MS. I did that mix the day I started get sick. My mixes general suck but that just added to the suck factor.

Here's my first attempt. Tell me what you guys thinkzzz about my mixzzz.

Tell me iffz it rulz or suckzz. I did it on headphones, and ones that I'm not used to yet, but I guess it was a good experience for learning my headphones. I'm tired and looks cool? . Sorry guyzz? . Which miner chord did he play in the chorus?

Whoah, Keiffer, what'd you do to your drums? they sound pretty fuckin' good. The whole mix sounds good. Care to share any techniques? I AM TEH NOOB!

mrhotapples thanks...

The kit as tuned didn't do it for me, so the Kick, Snare and Toms are sample replaced. I'm very fond of the Andy Sneap metal samples he posted. Then EQ balanced for attack based on the mix... and the Snare is compressed some. Overheads are rolled off around 500Hz and EQd for air. Then some reverb to pull the kit together... I went for a fairly dark mix

my favorite part is at 1:41 when the bass comes back in... love that part. :D

Ahh, some really good mixes here....maybe we're picking up some speed with this???

Here is my latest mix...I'm hoping it has a little more ballz....

sum1 comment my mix plz, tell me thee infozz that headphones aren't telling. Please mshilarious/me from the future. I am starving, btw.

M'kay.... I'd say lil heavy on the low end espically the bass...lotta low low there... My sub is on fire...not that it sounds bad, but it's a bit off balance...

Like what ya did with the vox though good idea there... when ya get the bass situated we'll have to have a relisten.... I think it's causing the rest of the mix to pump a bit too....

Not sure if I like the phaser on the intro though.... maybe mix that in less (less effect) so you just barly notice it....

ok... I had some more time to tinker....

I'm getting closer but I'm still fighting with some of the levels...

Rabbit Mix 3

is it the lowz bass like kick drum area 50-60hz or higher up like bass/guitar lowz 100-150hz? I'm thinking the latter lowzzz.

.......zzzzzz
