MIC outs

I'm sure this has been asked and answered many times but the forum search keeps taking me to a web search instead of a forum search...anyway :

My pre-amp(207D) has two outputs on each channel (XLR and 1/4) the manual says not to go from the outs to a mic level input because it raises the noise floor. My question is, then why is there an XLR out? Can anyone explain this to a dumbass with no electrical background

Alot of mixers, recorders and interfaces have XLR inputs for mic AND line level. XLR simply is a kind of balanced connector, nor necessarily a MIC input. It is actually the same connections-wise as a TRS 1/4 jack. So, there ya go! Now to connect to any line ins with 1/4" inputs, you may need to a get some XLR to TRS cables which are pretty readily available.
