The guys in Dillinger Escape Plan are skinny little twerps, especially Greg! :D

I like my SG. I don't play anything even close to metal. Lol.

It was my first guitar, and if I knew then what I know now, it would have been a tele. But now I'm happy I've got a quality Gibson and a quality Fender. But compared to my strat the SG is a beast.

SG's have an extremely thick neck. its one of the hardest guitars for me to play. i find my les paul way easier to play. SG's are very light though. the look isnt so appealing to me either. and i havent seen one metalcore band using an SG.

Leslie is selling this one.

where did you find your Caparison?...I know they have heavy distribution in Japan, but are there any Chain dealers that have them right now?

i've played SG's in a couple of local shops, and i like the feel of them, but i have to say, purely on an 'image' front, i don't see the appeal at All. they're just plain ugly :p, to the point where i get annoyed watching a band with a guitarist playing an SG...

teles - now Those are beautiful guitars... compared to SG's, they just look correctly proportioned, like everything's the right size and shape - to me, the neck on an SG looks too big for the body, and the little horn things on either side look like they really want to be bigger, but their high fibre low carb diet just won't let them :p.

just my opinion... woo! Teles! :p

wow like anyone should credit hardcore/metal tone at all.

I wouldn't call it "tone" either.

Why, what do you relish for musical tone?

Have you played one in the last 40 years? SG's have really thin necks (the 60's profile, which is common amongst the Standard, 61 RI, and Supreme, which are certainly the best representation of what an SG is about currently) which are thinner than strat's necks, closer to that of a thicker Ibanez neck.

I have an SG standard, and although I play some metal, I don't use the SG for it, and I don't consider that a metal guitar. I think the fact that it is a 24.75" scale guitar and is rather thin are the main reasons why it isn't very suitable for metal. However I do think an SG's asthetics are very suitable for metal, they look like they would kick a telecaster's ass if they ever caught one walking around by itself late at night.

I ordered mine from ishabashi music in japan. You can get them from guitar asylum in New York, but they'll rip you off. You can get it a few hundred bucks cheaper from Japan shipped..

SG are great, but the shortscale neck and unbalanced feel can be argued as drawbacks. But if weight is the main factor, The Les Paul Studio Lite is a pretty good guitar also

The scale length for the SG is the same as for the Les Paul - 24 3/4 inches.

SG's do indeed tend to be a bit neck-heavy, though.
