How secure are those Tensimounts? Do they hold a mic good when it is pointing straight down? It's kind of hard to tell from the pictures exactly how good they hold.

Try it, and see if it doesn't change the sound, due to attenuation of low frequency vibration from kick drum to mic stand. Maybe you just like the beat...Richie

If I had some I'd try it as an experiment. But with heavy duty mic stands (the bases alone must weigh about 25 pounds) and carpeted room I haven't been able to detect a need for them. Ever since I've started using Recorderman's OH configuration, drummers are raving about my overhead sound. And that's despite my crappy room. Maybe I'll borrow yours sometime and try it!

They go into a standard mic holder (like a 57's) or you can get one of theirs. As long as the shockmount is tight in it's holder an 012 won't go anyplace. If I were using them as overheads pointed straight down I'd use a little tape just to be sure. Or drill a hole through the shockmount and holder, put a screw in there and be done with it.

I second the Tensimount choice. I bought a couple to try them out, and was mightily impressed by their construction and ease of use, so I got some more - including the large-mic adapters. Great product at good price!

PS: They provide extra bands to use to secure the Tensimount to the regular mic-clip, but if you're really worried the small-hole/screw solution seems to be a good idea.

I was actually more worried about how secure the actual mic itself is held in the bands...like if it is positioned straight up and down, is there any chance of it slipping out? :)

An 012 sits in a Tensimount shockmount tighter than a nat's ass streched across a rain barrel.

well put philboyd! BUT it's a "gnat's ass" (I was confused at first)

I will DEFINITELY 3rd that motion. I've been using the Tensimounts on my ecm8000's and it's EXACTLY what i wanted.. except for the fact that the tactness of the rubber bands has worn some of the ink off the mic. kind of a bummer but at least I know that the bands are holding that mic SUPER securely.
The tensimount will hold ANY mic. I mean ANY. from a 5mm electret condensor (AKA lavier or lapel mic) to a Sure 55 or SM7 (with large mic adaptor). Plus the Shipping is freaking fast (USPS) and the customer relations are PERFECT. A pair of mounts I ordered got lost in the mail and I emailed the guy and he sent another pair out the next day. I cannot say enough about tensimounts! and EXCELENT construction/manufacturing
I've got 3 of them now.. they're just really nice.
