Mackie and RNP Connections?

If using a RNP with a Mackie 32x8 going into an Alesis HD24...
do I bypass the board's mic pres completely and go from the RNP to the HD24... ? or may I come out of the RNP into a line input channel on the board to utilize the channel's eq section without any fuss or level problems?
( I usually just slightly eq the signals going "to tape") .. or does going back through the Mackie channels kind of negate the fundamental characteristics of any external mic pre unit?

Any advice on the best way to set external Mic pres with a Mackie set up?

You can go either way but my preference when I used to use a Mackie 24*8 was to run pre outputs directly into the recorder, bypassing the console completely.

Minimal signal path is always a good rule to follow...

Thanks Blue Bear Sound.. I was thinking the same thing .. however, what if I need to attenuate the signal out of the pres .. as it is now a couple of mics send pretty hot signals even with their -10 pad engaged and the Mackie input channel trim fully ccw, I still need to drop the faders a few dB to keep from clipping the recorder. The RNPs do not have an output level .. I am thinking about getting a couple of Mecenary Audio's racked RNPs/RNCs

Given this scenerio, with the RNC connected to the inserts of its companion RNP, would it be advisable to maybe use the Gain settings of the RNC to attenuate the levels going into the recorder? Or is there a different and better way of attaining this, almost assured necessary, level attenuation?
