Dang!

So that whole project or at least that track were done on the 80-8? How much bouncing had to be done?

I love the sound...it actually has an early 70's vibe to it (which is a compliment).

No bouncing of tracks at all that I can recall. Proper planning and mostly live in the studio was how it was done. :) The guys were well prepped and rehearsed for the project. It all went very smoothly considering. We produced an album in about a week and a half, about 4-5 hours a day. I didn't even know that they pressed it until a couple years later when I sent in for a "sample pack" from a pressing plant and they sent a copy of the cover as a sample of their art work capabilities. After that I kept my eyes open looking for a copy of the record. SEVERAL (MANY) years later I bought a copy of the album off a web site that specializes in out of print records. :laughings: I THINK I still have the 1/2" masters around here somewhere (maybe). Here's the front and back cover.

Wowwww that's excellent...wonder if the Ponty boys are related to Jean-Luc?

So is it safe to say that parts are more commonly available for the 38 than the 80-8?

I may have found a decent 38 locally....

The guy selling the 80-8 hasn't gotten back to me, which kind of irritates me seeing how I was very interested with cash in hand, but he now wants to get it all hooked up and test it out after the little mishap the other day when it wasn't working properly (and turned out to be a fuse), which is perfectly acceptable except that I've called him and left a message and never heard back. So I'm tired of chasing it. I also think he wants too much for it, even though it's in minty-mint cosmetic condition. It would be one thing if he would want to include the mixer, dx-8, remote, etc... maybe some tapes (or the alignment tape, geez) for what he wants, and what I offered him was lowballing him already but still too much for just the deck itself...

If I needed a head cover w/ emblem for a 38 would it be hard to find?

Also,
Heads....

Are these decent or what? I was also told the belt needs to be replaced...

It would be nice to see the pic in higher resolution, but from what I can see the pinch roller looks good and the wear pattern on the heads is nice and even and a normal to light amount IMO. The look good.

So, wait...I thought you offered $500 for the 80-8 with DX-8 and remote?

Heh, yeah... sort of. He wanted like $800 for the deck alone originally, and I talked him down to $500 on just the deck, but asked him to think about adding in one of the extras for that price. He was pretty confident about divvying it up and selling the DX-8 and remote separately on eBay. But, whatever because I haven't even heard from him in a few days and he didn't seem all that interested in selling it once I came down and looked at it.

man

All i can say is, AWESOME SOUNDING RECORDING. Seriously. Punchy, crisp, warm, and even with so many volatile percussive types of instruments and playing styles the recording never gets harsh or sonically obnoxious.

Looks to be clean and straight at least going by the pics...would be nice to see one of it powered up to see if any vU lamps are out. Also, I see a JRF sticker on the headblock...its been relapped so you want to ask for good clear pics of the headstacks and lifter posts to guage the relative wear...IF you follow up that is...:D
