Hello,

Anyone know of a kit for these. Not averse to a little soldering, but not keen on making and drilling my own PCBs. Looking just for either the whole kit, or a place that will sell you just the PCB.

Have unbalanced to balanced x8 on my M-520, so looking to go from +4 to -10 x4. Jensen xformers are an easy way to go, but get pretty expensive at $60 or so a shot.

Which way are you going? If it's down from +4dBu to -10dBV, just make a pad:

If you want to go up from -10dBV to +4dBu, then you need an appropriate transformer or an active circuit. A simple dual opamp will do the trick; you can get perfboard that is laid to use DIPs. The main trick will be the power supply; to go to +4dBu with at least 15dB of headroom, you need a +/-15V supply. Not too hard to build, but by the time you're done, you may be wishing you had just bought those transformers ;)

The power supply isn't a problem. I only really need to go from +4 to -10. I did see something on the web from Elec Musician of an active circuit that went both ways. Again, I'm cool with that, I just don't want to etch and drill my own pc board.

I'd seen that pad circuit, is two resisters really all it takes? Just seems way too easy!

Given that you are feeding an unbalanced input, yes, that is all it takes. No reason to make things more complicated with an active circuit.

Of course, the easiest solution is to turn down the +4dBu device by 12dB . . .

Unless you just wanna DIY, you could get the EBtech 8-channel line-level shifter. It goes both ways ( -10 to +4 or +4 to -10). Also there's the ART 8 channel transformer thingy.. I have 3 of the Ebtechs stereo version of the 8 channel and they perform well. Don't seem to get in the way.. Good luck
