"It's private" and "it's none of your business" means exactly the same thing.

And so does "I can't tell you". It's what you say and how that makes it polite or not.

Farview said:
"It's private" is a more polite way to say "fuck off"?????

It's private isn't rude like fuck off, so no. Saying it's none of your business is because you're telling the person who asked the question they have business asking the question at all.

If we were talking face to face, you would have heard the inflection in my voice, I wasn't trying to be a dick.

It couldn't be any more rude than asking someone how much money they made.

Well, you didn't really have any business asking the question.

Well, as I said, it's the content.

But you weren't asking a question.

I do if I wanted to know. I can ask any question I want, that's my right as a individual. Example, I can ask for your SS#, even if there isn't any real reason, I still cann ask if I wanted to know.

I was reffering to you asking me how much money we made.

In the context of my post where I told you it wasn't any of your business, I did tell you that it wasn't very much. In that context, you should have been able to surmise that I wasn't trying to be a dick, even in light of the rude question I was answering.

OK, so let me get this straight: You can ask me rude and personal questions, but I am supposed to make sure I'm being polite when I don't answer them????!!!! Why do you have rights and I don't?

I was curious to know the amount of the check because if I remember correctly, it should be a min of $100,000 (or whatever the USPTO has down in the law).

And yes, I did surmise you're weren't being a dick, I just hate that line. It really pointless statement that people say when it's not possible, which is why some people use it to be polite and fuck off.

Asking for your SS# isn't rude. What if I just wanted to know? Asking when the last time you wacked off would be rude, unless I wanted to know. Your doctor my ask you ;-).

Farview said:
Then, why did you accuse me of being a dick?

I said you don't have to be. I'm was an English major, we can play these games all day -lol.

Asking someone you don't know personal questions about money, sex, etc... IS rude. Look it up in any etiquette book (website).

Not to expect consequences for boorish behavior is just down-right stupid.

Though I'm not that good with typing, so I may misspell or leave out words completely.

Why would you remind me that I don't have to be a dick when I wasn't being one?

YOU did mention check. It's not personal if YOU bring it up.

I'm bored, what can I say. I do have to get something to eat, so TTYL.

I mentioned check, I didn't mention amount.

Anyway, it turns out that you are the dick in this thread. Fuck off!

I never said you were. I said you don't have to be.

I was hired out of college my senior year, and it wasn't something I could pass up. So I never graduated. But hey, now I'm retired and wont ever have to work again. I may go back, but only if I'm bored.

But isn't not a private question.
