ok...working on a new studio underneath an auto repair garage...we work opposite hourse...so its kind of nice. Here is my general plan. I am completely encased in concrete, so my biggest issue is sound quality...not leakage.

I am not looking to make major label stuff here...just good music/ demo's. So while I want to do something nice...I am not recording the boston pops.

Any and all advice is hugely welcome!

Thanks!

ps, I do need to save some space for storage as we do store tires down there...great sound control :)

Never saw anybody draw a floorplan in Excel before - cool...

You could have 'em stack the tires in a big "roll of lifesavers" stack in all the corners, oughta work pretty good for bass traps (which you'll need in a solid concrete "bunker" -

Are there walls between the control room and live room? A little more detail would help there. Also, how tall is the ceiling and is it smooth concrete or ribbed?

An idea of budget would help -

And how are you at building stuff? Tools available? (Not torque wrenches and valve grinders, but carpentry stuff... Steve

budget...not much :) going for creativity over cashivity...we have the sound somewhat under control by using moving blankets spaced away from the walls.

We are basically building this over time...hoping to do the floor and some framing this weekend. Currently it is an open floor plan, other than the stuff marked in red. I also may have another idea to get the tires out of the room which will mean I need a lot less storage.

I also have a lot of scrap tires around with could be used in some fashion on the floor if suggested.

the ceiling has steel rafters and concrete, so we put up 2 by 6's with ply wood on top and let it curve...worked out really well actually and keeps any loose concrete from falling on us :)

Actual height...not that sure :(

Excel, I was looking for graphing paper...couldn't find any, so I made some in excel :)

I am still a tad nervous about the vox room and drum room...are the walls too paralel there?

Looks like you're doing OK with John at the other site - stick with him, he'll take good care of you (although it may take a few posts) I'm more likely to see your questions there, and you can get into actual construction info on the Construction forum with me, once you finalize a design idea... Steve
