You’ve got to take the idea of them ‘producing’ their album in that room with a chunk of salt - for one thing most everything but the vocals were direct - drums and bass inlcuded - they had the room treated somewhat - and they recorded Eilish’s vocals with a screen around her - and stems were mixed by engineer Rob Kinelski -and it was mastered by John Greenham - to Finneas O’Connell’s credit Kinelski said he didn’t have to do a lot with the stems - and he used a minimal amount of plugins and hardware to get it to the mastering stage - but what he did do was important to the mix - still
The stuff I posted below is from a web article HERE These two siblings were capable of writing, recording and producing a song that was able to go viral via soundcloud and put them on the map and in the eye of the machine all by themselves with no one but just them doing everything in their bedroom.

What you say is to a degree accurate.....In actuality is they recorded and produced (as per the article) their first album in their bedroom on an Imac with Logic pro ....As per Finneas in this article, he says neither Rob or John did much more than do a little polishing of the recording, mixing and production that was accomplished in the bedroom.

The proof of the pudding....... BEFORE Rob and John ever heard the name Finneas O'connel, Ocean Eyes was a world wide viral hit launched on Soundcloud and is what got them the deal in the first place.

cool interview about releasing their first song on Soundcloud. She was 13 he was 18. Damn!

While Finneas O’Connell can now afford to employ a mixer and mastering engineer on his productions, it wasn’t always that way. But lack of a budget should not be a barrier to anyone starting out in the business, he says.

Take “Ocean Eyes,” for example—the song that went viral and caught the attention of the management team and record label now behind Eilish. “It was mixed and mastered by me and uploaded to Soundcloud. And that song saved our lives,” says O’Connell.

“When I was starting to make music, I thought I had to pay a bunch of people to do all my things professionally and that that would be the only way I would ever have any success. It’s really important for kids to not think that there’s something intangible and out of reach for them. The truth is that you just have to make a song that people like.”

How many crappy recordings have we heard that we constantly listen to because we like the song? Your count my vary. :)

I don’t disagree with them getting a good sound - O’Connell’s skills were good - but you listen to Ocean Eyes and then Bad Guy and there is more going on them just O’Connell honing his skills.
