Just go to the local Guitar Center or where ever and try a bunch of guitars out. In my opinion you cant go wrong with the Standard. It will hold its value better than the Classic. The Standard has great pickups and finishes too.

The Standard is the real deal.

Heres mine:

Well, to the dismay of many, I bought a Les Paul! I picked up a Les Paul Standard LE with a flamed maple top with a translucent blue finish, and an ebony fretboard. It truly is a BEAUTIFUL guitar.

Thanks for all the replies and PM's!

:D

wow, nice choice! :) now get yourself handwired marshall and youll be good to go!

well, if u have the cash i definitely recomend the 1974x 18 watt combo. i have it in my pic on top of the extension cabinet. they go for about $2299

its pure marshall tone ESPECIALLY with your LP standard. perfect volume for a studio too. no stompboxes required :)

or a Fender Deluxe Reverb (up until aprox. 1978) ...

from clean to crunsh to instant classic rock and AC/DC ... at least check them out b4 getting anything different

cheers

MARSHALL AMPS DO ONE THING EXTREMELY WELL.
They have a great sound at very high volume for rock music, particularly when teamed up with a good Les Paul.

Mesa-Boogie amps do everything extremely well. You name a musical style and a Boogie sounds good doing it. (Okay, they can't save Yoko, I agree ;) )

Buy a Boogie, live happily ever after.

they do, a deluxe reverb nails this very sound at lower volumes (its only 22w) ... lets not forget that Jim Marshall got big, copying Fender circuits

cheers

i have a deluxe reverb reissue and it sounds nothing like my marshall. it does have a nice overdrive when cranked but not marshally at all. it does clean very well...obviously.

Oh, and most important of all.

If you want to get your money back some day, for goodness sake buy used. If you buy a new one, you're going to have to wait on inflation growth to get your money out of it. Just wait until just the right deal comes along and snap on it. I got my mid 70's LP Custom for $1000, my 73 SG for about $650, and my McCarty 10 for $1200. These are all recent (last 2 years). Anytime you get a good deal to begin with, you've already won.

and i got his used lp studio for 500.00!!!!!!!!.....looooooove that guitar

This thread tells me one thing.

I give away way too many good Les Pauls ;)

just a quick note ... the RI has very little to do with the original ... the original was Point-to-Point wiring ... the RI has a motherboard in it ...

cheers

thanks alfred. i actually have a set of pyrmids that i plan on using as soon as i install my TV jones pups. i have a neck magnatron and a bridge tv jones classic that i think will really make this guitar sound great.

Ya beat me to it. The sound of the RI is very close to the original. It's nowhere near as easy to mod, though.

way to go ...

I use Gretsch flatwounds on mine (www.angela.com - $6.00) - they are not as smooth as pyramids, but only cost about 1/3 ... extremely mellow and complex rich tone

I would guess you'd like the TVs a great deal - I have a Gretsch Spectra Sonic and the 2 TVs are incredible ... smooth, nearly piano like very organical and round in tone ... it sometimes feels as if they have some sort of reverb on their own if you understand

yet when you push them they break up over a very large strech of the volume pot (as opposed to being 0-1) leaving you with plenty of sonic options -great rauchy tone, plenty of harmonics - yet very ballsy sounding...

I yet have to hear better pups on any guitar ...

cheers

Well, just an update for those that care (probably nobody - lol) -

Bought a 1974X to go with it - both are in transit via UPS. I got good enough deals on both that I can re-sell if I have to, and should be able to make a few bucks if I hold on to them. I really don't see how I will not absolutely love the combo! :D
