Well, to the dismay of many, I bought a Les Paul! I picked up a Les Paul Standard LE with a flamed maple top with a translucent blue finish, and an ebony fretboard. It truly is a BEAUTIFUL guitar.

Thanks for all the replies and PM's!

:D

nice. congrats on your new guitar. although i'm generally pretty conservative when it comes to guitar colors, i have to say that that shade of blue really works well. is the guitar new? if not, how old is it? what was the price, if you don't mind me asking?

The Black Beauty is a three pickup design, like Niel Young used to (maybe still does) play. Is that what you have?

I have a mid 70's black LP Custom. It's a little beat up, but it plays and sounds great. Better still, I got it for $350, but that was a long time ago.

The '54 with the 2 pickups is also called Black Beauty. Personally I hate the look of the triple h buckers. Overkill. My BB has a Bigsby.

Another update -

The LP and the 1974 have arrived - the LP went straight in for a thorough tune-up and a minor repair, so I'll reserve judgment on that for later. The amp however, WOW! I will NEVER buy another "master volume" amp again. For the first time, I feel like I am playing the amp as much as the guitar - always before, I was just playing through the amp. WOW! That's all I can say. WOW! :D
