i recently aquired an alesis multimix8 with cubase le and am having a huge problem with getting it in working order.the so called manual it offers does not help.most of all, the device setup has been very frustrating to figure out. wen i switch my asio driver to---directx full duplex i get an error saying---audio engine record error audio engine error ASIO went out of sync---WHAT DOES OUT OF SYNC MEAN!-and the regular asio multimedia driver is just bein plain retarded--

i have recorded sumthin in the past tho but am not sure how it even worked

do i enable the usb for the input and the sound card for the output?
what should the setup be?

for the love of god help me, i am desparate now

I'm not familiar with that particular unit. Do you have drivers for the Alesis installed (check the Alesis website for the most recent drivers)? That should be the driver you use (and it should be ASIO). The alesis should be set as both the input and output device (connect your speakers & headphones to the alesis for monitoring). Using your onboard soundcard simultaneously (Directx driver) will cause all kinds of latency problems.

Woo hooo... You're in for some fun...

First go to www.alesis.com and download the latest drivers.. Uninstall all software that came in the box with the MultiMix.
With the MM8 powered off, Reboot the computer and install new drivers and software.
Reboot and power on the MM8 AFTER everything is booted up. You should install drivers for 4 Alesis devices..
Open the Alesis MultiMix Control Panel on your desktop and make sure your hardware settings all jive according to the book. There's something about Disabling WMD in there, don't do it. And per the folks at Alesis, the CENTER box at the middle of the bottom of the screen needs to be checked ON.. Close the MM Control panel.
Open Cubase and follow the directions in the book to get to the properties screen (trying to give these instructions from memory).
For the ASIO Driver select ASIO MultiMix. You shouldn't have anything set to Direct X, since you prolly don't have anything DirectX connected it'll error out every time.

All that said, what are the specs on your computer..?? Was told minimum specs are about 1.0 ghz (NOT A CELERON processor..!!!), 512mb ram, 7200rpm drive with several gig of free space and of course a Firewire card. I think the standard is a Texas Instruments Chipset Firewire card, but I couldn't get the MultiMix to even show up on the end of one. Had no problems with a NEC Chipset Firewire card, except for the fact I was trying to run everything with a Celeron processor.

If all else fails, call the folks at Alesis and ask for tech support on the MultiMix. 1-401-658-5760.. The guys I've talked to there were pretty helpful and can walk you through the setup step by step.

hey
i'm having the same problems, and when i try to install the new drivers and open the control panel it doesn't recognise that the mixer is on and plugged in (even though it is recognised in cubase/nuendo)
has anyone else had this problem?

Yep... Had that problem for a while... If things are working right, you shouldn't need to get into the control panel to change anything.. At least that's what Alesis told me... There SHOULD be some new drivers out soon that will correct the problem.. I'm not sure exactly what it was I did, but mines working right now.. May have been a reinstall.. Or it may just be the new MM unit they sent when one of the first two bit the dust..
