Hello Everybody

I just had a few questions about recording on my Laptop that I would appreciate help with. I currently record with a POD (1st version) and I run the POD into the mic jack in my pc at very low volumes. As you know this sounds like garbage. I just need some info on what do I need to buy as far as recording goes to make a decent guitar demo. I have many different types of software...Cubase, Sonar 3, Cakewalk etc. My gear is a 5150 head and the POD. My laptop is a Sony Vaio about 6 months old. I hear the POD XT has a USB connection so will that work with my recording programs? or do I have to purchase a sound card or some other device? What are my options? Thanks for the help guys. :o

With the XT you should be able to connect it directly to the laptops USB port and record that way provided Line 6 offers drivers to enable the POD as a recognizable audio interface to the computer. Also providing that the DAW software you intend to use can recognize those audio drivers.

Looking here at Line 6 FAQ, looks like it will.

Well it depends on what you mean by decent guitar demo. If its just crap throw away then the Pod into your computer will be just fine, but if you care about your recording then try and find a way to mike up your 5150 (SM57 would be a good mic choice), they are very cool amps and far better than any sound you will get out of the Pod. You can start getting into a sound card and a mic for a couple hundred bucks these days, but if you are just trying to save money and quality is not important just stick with the Pod.

Thanks for the input guys....any good soundcards for laptops, brands?
