So I purchased my first 4 track reel to reel (a Teac A-2300S) and everything is functioning the way it should. The only thing is, I have an analog 16 channel mixing board (Yamaha MG166C) and I have no idea how to hook them both up the way I want to. This may come off as stupid, I'm honestly not sure because I was born in the digital age, but ideally, I'd like to record and multitrack myself by going in through the inputs on the mixer and record into the reel to reel. I hope this is even possible, and if it isn't please let me know another way. Thanks.

The MG166C appears to be made for use with a DAW rather than a multitrack tape recorder. You could try connecting the group outputs to the recorder's inputs and bring the recorder's inputs back in through 4 unused channels. Be sure not to assign those 4 channels to a group, or you could get wicked feedback. I'm not sure if this arrangement would give you a workflow similar to what you'd get with a traditional mixer and recorder, but it's worth a try.

You may or may not be aware of this yet, but that reel to reel is a two-channel quarter-track, not a four-channel like some other Teacs. In other words, you can record two tracks on one side of the tape at one time and then flip it and record two tracks on the other side in the reverse direction like a cassette deck. You cannot record four tracks in one direction and it is not a "multitrack" like you may be thinking.

Yeh, you basically can really just use that deck as a 2-channel (stereo) mix deck. You could record live stuff submixed through the board (just use the main stereo outs on the board to channels 1 & 3 for side one, and 2 & 4 for side two).
