I'd rather have a makeup gain knob then a variable impedance knob. I guess if I owned Vintage Mic's I would care but I don't. I'll wait for the next model to come out with the makeup gain. I've read the company has received allot of complaints about that.

It's not the first compressor in the world without a makeup gain. It's actualy very easy to set once you know what you are doing with it

THEROS, thanks for the kind comments, that was my first outing using the Tampa, I've used it on lots more since but that one session realy does stand out. Thanks to the artist for making my job easy by being on top of his lot.

I just ran some DI bass today from my SWR pre into the Tampa and I could not believe the difference the impedance settings made in volume and tone.

There is plenty gain adjustment to work with using the +20dB -20 dB pad and the impedance selector.

Im planning to return my DMP3 and get this baby.

Im just debating on three pre's. RNP, GT Brick, or the Tampa. I do rap vocals.

Any suggestions to complement my brand new AT4040?

Those two songs not only sound good, they're well composed.. good work, friend...

I just ordered the Tampa today and have also ordered the AT4040, did you ever try this combo out? How did it sound?

I hope none of you guys work for m-audio or something, this thing is sounding too good.

IMO thats quite a normal reaction for ones from mixer pre to 400 dollar range single chennal pre
and double that price in to 1k range is mostly just going to be pure personal preferances

Only 99.9% of us but pimping our gear helps us buy the good stuff! :D

i dont get it ... my tampa seems to make no difference

ive ran many tests with it and i never even hear a change .. i mean really subtle things that arent worth it.

i bought mine from ebay ... could this be a mistake

ill record something and take a listen then record the same exact thing through the tampa .. maybe a little volume difference.

ive taken things ive previously recorded and then ran them through the tampa, with and without the compressor... NO CHANGE!

am i missing something?
please help

hell yeah, thanks for bringing this thread up from the dead. I have been looking to snake one on ebay for cheap for 3 months now letting people forget about this pre. Now every newb will be bidding on one for the next 3 months . I see the price going up another few hundo's now
if you dont like yours sell it to me. I was trying to snag one for $125.....but i am sure the ebay price just jumped to $350

It was the thread starters first real pre.. he would have been amazed with anything better than behringger...They are basicaly a dm3 with a comp...nothing special only worth $200 at best. thats why the price dropped in half after they first came out.

your right they do look bad ass .. when shes all lit up with the VU meters and everything... sometimes i just like to turn it on even when im not using it

he...he...heee. that made me smile :)

yeah but this is my first pre after a behri too .. theres really no difference... the whole time ive been convincing myself that there is .... but there isnt

naw its nothing special just a cute little clean pre...It may be your mic and cables holding you back.......but not by much.. you should spend $100 and get a vtb-1. maby you are looking for a dirty(compaired to the m-audio) tube sound. If you dont like that i will buy it off you full price. i need another one anyway. Or for a step up try a old joe meek. one that was made in england ;)
