As I understand it, the ITAM was supposedly the first 1/2" 8-track machine, launched in 1973. There was also a 1" 16-track version, which I think came a bit later.

I thought the Tascam 70-8 was the first 1/2 inch 8-track...:???:

Didn't that come out in 1974?

**EDIT**
Okay, I've managed to find my primary source (a 2005 StudioSpares catalogue) - whenever the Tascam came out, the ITAM was created in 1974. Barry Lambsden (its creator, who later founded StudioSpares) claimed it was the first machine in that format, though I suppose he could be wrong :P

Holy crap -- so this machine would have to be at LEAST 35 years old. The poor thing must be having a mid-life crisis.

I am absolutely craving some pickies of this machine :)

Let us know the status, please! This machine's way too cool to be in a landfill, or a paperweight!

Itam 805

I used an ITAM 805 professionally for years it was a really good and underated machine. The main chassis was Revox modified to take half inch tape. Just because it was not made in japan or shipped to the states doesn't mean it was not good. The psu was its achilles heel as with many 70's gear. I built a new regulated psu for the one I had under my wing and it was very reliable after that.
