Interface that separates channels to tracks?

haha yeah, i've got a desktop. and jeff - if i use that setup that you diagrammed out, would everything going into the delta be pre or post-fader?

The diagram with your current mixer would all be post fade outputs I beleive.

As far as firewire vs usb, from reading around here and looking at what commercial available, firewire seems to be a better way to go for more tracks. There are a few usb2.0 8 channel interfaces, but not many. I couldn't tell you the specifics, and I'm sure you could do a search around here from more detail, but its seems to be that despite having similar specs for throughput, they handle data and processing differently.

You have a TON of options for 8 channel interfaces in the $400 - $800 range.
