I am looking for a new/different audio interface that does the job for me (see details inside)

Help, please! I am tired of my Revelator io44 (always something that is messing it up, first it was the app not working like it should, then messy firmware, then things on the interface not saving etc etc etc), so Imma sell it an get a new audio interface. I don't care about keeping it anymore. I have had it for a few years, but I don't want it anymore. Must have something else. Please accept that instead of trying to get me to keep it. 😄 I will sell it then get a different one instead. Nuf said.

I am a semi-voiceover artist (I do some audiobook readings etc., but it's not a fulltime job), as well as quite a lot of livestreaming + content creation.

My mics are Røde NT1 and Røde Procaster. My headphones = DT770 Pro.

No instrument/singing use.

Budget should be around what an MOTU M2 costs. Speaking of M2, I see a lot of nice words about it... any thoughts about that, or should I go for a different one?

Nothing amiss with the MOTU it should be fine. I’m intrigued though my the mention of the issue with the other? The app, the firmware? In my life with dozens of interfaces, apps and firmware dont form part of my daily use. The interfaces just work, or they don’t. You install them once, and as soon as they burst into life, any application should be able to access them. Sounds more like your annoyances are not really coming from the interfaces just work, but whatever software you use to record on whatever device you have? Daft stuff, really. In my home studio my interface died. Swapping it for a Behringer 1820, going down in price, because I was temporarily cash strapped but work to do, was transparent, and I liked the way it worked. I swapped the presonus in my video studio for another, and moved that to replace an older Tascam.

The Behringer on a mac using cubase as my prime DAW works 100%. No issues at all. No using apps, no firmware updates. In the video studio, on a pc, all is also good, apart from cubase forgetting to automatically set it as the default device. A few mouse clicks every power up. Annoying but trivial.

The M2 would keep me happy, the io44 seems aimed at a narrower market. Presonus as a brand would not concern me.

What DAW are you using to record, process and master on? My thoughts are that maybe that is what is causing your annoyance.

I have the M4 and love it, as does son. The M2 just lacks the extra line ins and outs. It does, to parrot Rob it "just works." I am presently evaluating a bridge mount pickup for a classical guitar for my son. Mic pres and converters are only a few dBs down on the very best and the drivers very solid with low latency, in short, you won't get better for the money IMHO.
One feature that might sway the OP? From Win 10 you could not record audio passing through a PC, radio say, without quite a 3rd party faff. The MOTUs allow that to a virtual stereo track. Therefore you can sing along to a YT track and record it all. Balance later.

Dave.

Julian Krause offers extensive technical data and operating expectations on nearly all the current consumer audio interfaces. I strongly suggest you look through his revews to 1) learn what makes a good interface, and 2) choose one.
I spent a long while doing so and settled on the SSL12 - their SSL2 or 2+ interfeaces would be an ideal entry point.
Hope you find a suitable model...
