mr. green christmas
check it out...another in my series of low-budget cassette recordings...

if belinda carlisle were a man and strung out on methadone, she might sound something like this...

vacation

there is a pretty cool jam at the end

I can't give you anything on the mix, I'm on a laptop... :o

But I like it when people do covers and take them in a new direction.

Just lay off the methadone... :D

Lol. Dude, thats really bad in an awesome kind of way. I like it. :)

Thanks...uh, I guess...

I guess deep down I thought it was pretty good, but really kind of a novelty thing. I actually spent quite a lot of time trying to get it to sound tight. Maybe this is in the "so bad it's good" kind of category...like an old godzilla movie?

Anyway...I'm definitely suffering from poster's remorse. My advice to others: Don't post in the clinic at quarter of 5 in the morning after you've had a few too many.

No dude, I think its good. I like it. I mean, its a song from a band that probably no dude should ever cover, but you did it your own way but still kept it recognizable. It's "bad" as in a cheesy song from a cheesy band, but you made it good. :)

Whew!

Thank you very much for clarifying Greg...I feel much better. :)

a band that probably no dude should ever cover
Yeah...true. I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm getting all sensitive and covering '80's girl bands...? And yet, I am all dude.

Now, back to that Cher cover I've been working on...

(jk) :o

Its a good cover. Its different, its your own take on the song and I dig that, anyone can "copy" a song and you put your stamp on it.

Audio-wise, it would work better if the guitar was tuned better, sorry. :o The lead vocals could be a bit louder, and the whole thing could be a little bit "tighter", its not quite grooving at this point.

Very cool, its nice to hear an "original" "cover" :D

Thank you for the comments David...brought me back down to earth... ;)

Damn...busted! I think the electric is the main offender here? It sounds kind of sour throughout the body of the song (I think flat)...not so noticeable at the outro. My guitars are quite old and suffer from intonation problems, but I should be able to do a better job of masking that. Having properly tuned instruments is sort of minimum requirement, so this just isn't going to fly.

The lead vocals could be a bit louder
My voice should not be the focal point of any recording... ;)

Ouch... :( Thats what I don't get. I want it to sound loose, but not groove-less. I'm finding that slower tempo stuff is harder for me to get locked into and less forgiving in terms of timing issues than up-tempo numbers. Maybe I'll increase the tempo just a hair and try again. I really had high hopes for this arrangement...

Anyway, thanks a lot for the comments!

The recording is nice. I don't know the original song, so yours sounds good. Kind of a layed back tune.

I listened to your Killing Floor...it's one of my favourite songs ever. Some huge effects on the vocal there!

Thanks Monkey Allen.

It never occured to me that someone might enjoy this without the novelty of comparing it to the original, which is ultra-80's girl band pop. Kind of hyperactive actually. A pretty horrible song in my estimation.

That is pretty much just my voice on killing floor...sung into a very old mic with a little distortion and analog delay from guitar pedals. I thought it fit the song, but I think most people are put off by it. I can make my voice sound like that pretty much at will which is kind of wierd...must be that I'm a smoker.

Damn that was cool.

You should have posted this one instead! :D

refreshing

i really liked this.
it was original, and unexpected.

it reminded me of exactly what you described, a Methadone-addled Belinda Carslile after extensive sexual reassignment surgery. :)

good job!
