I'm still looking forward to your version of "Death from Above" (although you might want to consider doing "If You See Kay")! :D

I like it-its a rocking punk rock tribute to Iggy and the Stooges and it sounds really good and raw, just like it should!;)

Lol. It was a toss-up between "Death" and "Kaye". Seriously. I figured "Death From Above" would be a little easier, and since it's my first foray into the world of covering turbonegro, I'd better play it safe to start with. If this one goes okay, "If You See Kaye" is definitely next on the list. ;)

P.S. - The new album "Retox" is out. Sounds pretty good so far. ;)

Hah, that's funny! I guess I know you better than I think I do!! :D :D :D

I've only heard the "Do You Like Destruction" single so far and I wasn't really that impressed. But I can't base a whole CD on one song and I'm sure I'll buy it anyway. I even have some Turbonegro on vinyl, fer cryin' out loud!

But that's enough of me hijacking this thread about your cool Iggy Pop cover..... :o :o :o

Haha. That's cool. Thanks. :)

I meant to say on the lead only.... There's plenty of hit songs that do that to me, usually lead guitar. I think I am a bit more sesetive to certain freq. than most. Hard to believe considering my hearing loss:D

F.S.

Haha, thanks for the clarification. I did intentionally keep the guitar tones kind of "raw". The original version is pure in-your-face "garage" quality. I kinda tried to keep my version edgy like that.

I suppose we should make it clear that this is punk in the snotty, loud, aggressive Detroit'n'garage don'tgivearatsarseaboutLA sort of thing as opposed to killalldinosaurs/downwithpinkfloyd/2chords'lldoit/ohbondgaeupyours/liveattheroxyBRITISHsubculture circa1976 punk.
IN fact notty punk as precursor to gobbing punk, hence godfatherofpunkmoniker.
Oh & Greg you should give some saints a go - esp Know Your Product - I can hear you sneering the vox even now - OR anything from the 1st RADIO BIRMAN LP.

Yeah bands like The Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls were pre-punk "punk", but really they were just simple rock and roll bands. I guess they were restrospectively labeled as "punk" or "pre-punk" since they didn't really follow the rock formula of their time. They were just rock bands that kept it simple and edgy. This led to the more popular examples of American punk in NY like The Ramones and The Heartbreakers, etc. I find original American punk to be way better than the more popular and trendy brit punk. It's way more "real", not to mention musical. The Ramones and The Heartbreakers really were junkies and thugs. The Dictators really did like cars and girls. Richard Hell and the Talking Heads really were weird. Besides The Clash, Buzzcocks, Motorhead, and a few others, brit punk was mostly about fashion and pretty much sucked for everything else. The Clash is BY FAR musically the best punk band to come out of the UK, IMO. But as great as they are, and I love The Clash, they can't touch bands like The Stooges and The Ramones as far as sheer energy and just being fun to listen to.

I am listening on headphones and Bose speakers. I don't hear what you are talking about. The mix sounds fine. Maybe your system is having issues.
And my spectral view is playing tricks on me as well? Hardly. I mix and master, and I test the results on several different systems including headphones, I get much positiv feedback, no complains so far.

Anyways, here is a snippet where I fixed that resonance at remastering:

Would probably work out even better when I do it on an unmastered, lossless downmix of the song. If you don't like it, then just ignore it. It's your song and your 2.5 kHz resonance after all.

Dude, I don't know what kind of shit you're trying to pull, but I clicked that link and weird shit started happening.

Post your "fixed resonance" clip at Soundclick or some other trusted MP3 hosting site and we'll go from there. I'd love to hear it, because I'm really not following what you're trying to say. I think there's a language barrier or something.

Don't know the original, but I love Iggy. This sounds like what I'd imagine toe original should sound like. Great, raw energy, man. I love it.

Thanks man. If you don't mind, check out the new mix in the post right above yours and see what you think. :)

I will...I'm on the floor right now, so I can't stay on the 'puter too long...I'll take another break in a few.

It's all about tastes but I'd have to say that's bs. Bands like 999,Vibrators, X-ray specs, Undertones, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Sham69 are ALL kick ass bands, and to say that the brit scene didn't produce anything interesting except for the clash, would be stretching it for me.

I can't comment on your version of stooges right now cause my headset went to shit but ill check it out tomorow.

PS> I saw the stooges in June and they rocked, despite their age, and the fact I'm not a big fan.

EDIT: I forgot to mention Cocksparrer and ofcourse... Skrewdriver. :)

X-Ray specs was pure unmusical crap bro. Except for the Buzzcocks, the rest of those bands were marginal at best, and none of them come close to their American counterparts. The Clash, Motorhead, Buzzcocks, and The Damned are Britains best offerings and all great bands. The rest were pretty average and forgettable, except for the Pistols, who were just a freaking gimmick anyway. They were horrendous live. The early days of American punk was actually about attitude combined with music. Most brit punk was all attitude with very little musicality involved. For every one good song SLF or 999 has, I can name 10 better Ramones or Johnny Thunders songs. :D

Just listened the first second back and forth a few times. I can't really hear a big difference, but I know I have shitty ears. They both sound good to me, G.

Okay man, thanks for listening.

The differences between the 2 are pretty subtle. Maybe I'm making more of it than there actually is. :p
