If you post songs here.. Read This

Well... I think pretty much everybody around here is decent.. we've been fortunate enough to have a pretty nice little "community" here in the clinic... so having said that... I wanted to add my two bits..

sam.. I mean this nicely, but I think you're just being too darn over-reactive. I mean.. everybody here has jobs and lives and slow-connections and kids and girlfriends and blah blah blah... that's not to mention the time we spend recording... it's just a little too much to try and expect that we conform to some kind of detailed ettiquite on how to, and not to, post regarding songs...

sometimes I'll bump without really thinking.. sometimes I'll forget to reply to my own posts.. sometimes I won't comment on songs for a week or so, cause I'm busy, or cause I just can't think of anything constructive to say about what I listen to for a while... There's a thousand variables that can effect my posting methods... and the same goes for everybody else around here...

I understand you may have gotten a little peeved aboot the way you were seeing a particular thread going or whatever (I don't even know what prompted this)... but I really don't think it's worth it to try and make all sorts of implications aboat what you think the "proper" way to post in the clinic is.

Just let everyone contribute what they see fit... (based on what they feel their input is "worth", or how much free time they have, or how fast a connection they have or whatever) We don't need to go scarin' new contributors away, or causing strife among existing members, with implications about who is and isn't being a "good" poster.

that's just my impression... I hope you take that in the constructive way that it was intended.

WATYF

hey WATYF, I hear what your saying.. and yes, I have seen that you listened to my tunes and didn't comment.. :) but that's O.K. because I'm sure you saw that I listened to yours as well... I have no beef with you because I see that you listen to other peoples tunes.. Yeah I was probably 'over reactive', but every word was true...
(to the best of my very fried short term memory)

That was the first post I have ever seen by you that didn't have any smileys!:p

I don't think I was 'scarin new contributors away' though.. Actually quite the opposite imhop.. I have seen many new people posting away since I started this thread.. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I have seen 'new contributors.'

Anyway, peace WATYF.. I hear what your saying..

crap!!.. you're right... I totally forgot to use smileys..!!!

That has to be a first... :p

Well.. I don't comment on everything I listen to man.. I never have. Sometimes it's because everything I was gonna say has already been said, and sometimes it's because I really couldn't think of anything to contribute.......

and sometimes it's cause the song sucks beans and I don't wanna be mean.... :D

(I'm sure that wasn't the case with your song.) :D

But... either way.. I don't think there needs to be any kind of "standard" aboot this.. I think this is a topic that can just go without to much "scrutiny"... it's all good in the hood, aroond here... :p

WATYF

This concept has been done before, ages ago.

S8-N stated that he would only listen to people who listened and critiqued his stuff. He named names.

On the small scale, I suppose it makes sense.

On the larger scale, I find it an unproductive approach. Music is just that. Listen to it, like it or hate it. You may just get something out of it either way.

I listen to a few mp3's a week, I'm on a modem (so that is my 'excuse'). I 99% of the time comment on the tunes I download.

I also reciprocate as much as possible.

I never expect people to listen to my tunes based on whether I have listened to theirs and vice-versa. But I often do check out others songs based on that circumstance, just to see why they may like this or that about the song, what is similar in context of influence?. Human Nature, just works out that way.

In the words of the Doobie Brothers...

and speeking of critique ... it seem like on alot of your stuff you mention using Sonic Maximizer (I think???) seems like on everything ... what's up with that??? (kept forgetting to ask you before) :D
and also witch one is it there seems to be three models (of BBE
cheers

hey Fed, I usually always use it on bass, sometimes for guitar, never on drums, sometimes on vocals, half the time on keyboards, and never on a whole mix. Imhop, I think you could get the same results if you know how to use a parametric e.q. well.. I do not.. :D Rack mounted 462.. there is a newer version now I think..

Emeric - - I have never seen or heard of the S8-N thread.. It was before my time I guess so it doesn't really matter if it was done before... It needed to be done again I guess.. :) You used to comment on my tunes but have stopped.. It would have been nice to get your thoughts sometimes because your music sounds quite good, but that's cool.. I do see you comment on others, and I have not missed one of your tunes since the day I joined here..
It's not like I expected every single person that I commented to, to comment on my tunes.. but 1 out of 5 is not too much to ask.. It doesn't bother me as much today as it did yesterday.. I got over it.. After reading some of the replies here, I know the deal.. :) I will always check out your tunes when I see them because I like them, and they are always recorded well..

sam

I read through this thread several times... lots a stuff in it.. :D

Is it time to Nuke this thread yet?

I'm on the blacklist, I knew it!

:)

I check out what I can, sam. I've listened to spinoffs of your tunes and the originals as well.

I listen within the limitations of time. That's all I can do.

Many of your tunes are large file size. 4MB is usually the cutoff point for me. As well, you post very frequently. That is not a bad thing at all, I see you are getting the feedback required, that's cool. Reciprocation is not all that important to me. but I do appreciate any feedback I get on tunes I post.

The clinic has a life of its own.

Amen to that.. I think we should leave the clinic to its "life". I don't think there is any one set of "rules" that would be fair to everyone here.. just post and listen and "be"... everything is cool for school. :p

WATYF

Yeah I hear ya WATYF......

consider yourself on 'the black list'

:D joke

All is cool with me guys.. :)

However, like I said, after reading through this thread, I know how I'll be doin' it!! :)

peace all..

Nuke thread...

Sam, I'll always seek out and listen to your stuff, and comment whenever I can.

I do agree with Emeric, that with a 56K modem, downloads are painfully slow, and that's what kept me out of the mp3 arena for so long.

I don't have exact specs but a 7MEG download seems to take like 30 minutes or more. You know, I've never timed it, and when I venture into download-land, I usually just get up and leave the computer to do it's thing for a while, but believe me, it's damn slow, and if it were not for the great tunes themselves, it would not be worth it!

I agree, that the mp3 'clinic' is not a 'this for that' ironclad agreement, but it's always nice to comment on someone's work, no matter how bland it may be. Sometimes it's just common courtesy, and sometimes I may have specific pointers on how I'd like to improve the mix. I think that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Only on the worst of the worst downloads, that I did not like and thought was very bad, would I not comment, [no names], mainly because I don't want to just rip or dog a person's sincere effort. Of course, that's never the case with "samicide", which I always find quite good.

F/I, even way back at the first introduction I got to "samicide",... back when you had been very critical about the Davemania project,... when it would have been appropriate for me to want to slam you,... I just couldn't, because I recognized right away your stuff is great, and I'm a sincere person. I couldn't slam you just because I 'wanted' to slam you, because your stuff is just that good.

Anyone who can't see that has H.U.A. syndrome.

;)

Is this thread still going ? No shortage of feedback now B.SABBATH ! :D

It's not just for looks.. It actually works.. I listened to my tunes on lo-fi and they sound like ass... but the point gets across.. You can still get the idea of what's happening..

Reel - Yeah I was a dick when I first got here.:o I appreciate your comments.. I'll always drop a shout when you post! DAVEMANIA in the house!! :D

Nuke this thread!

I have yet to run across a song that I can't download faster than I can play it... I literally don't have to wait a second...

man I love DSL!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

WATYF

(I admit.. I prolly wouldn't listen nearly as much if it weren't so darn easy to do so.. :p )

B. Sabb, Listen to my post on nowhereradio please. new rock. gypsy riff or maybe under Flash?????Let me know what you think????????? Do you do rock stuff? Never mind I'll find your post.

Hmmm....

What if I were to develop a 'napsterish' program that downloaded tracks from artists you select on NWR in the background, as they appear...

So, lets say B.sabb uploads a tune, you aren't at your machine, but it's on, and connected to the net, it begins downloading it because you have it flagged to download anything new...

When you get to the machine, you simply choose it from the list and hit play... No stuttering, no waiting...

Thoughts?

hey waldo,

Whats the deal with this error I've been getting off and on today on Nowhereradio?
Server bandwidth exceeded. (Error=C00D002C)

Does this apply to the whole site or just the artist I tried to play?

Hmm, send me a screen shot of that error, that should not be happening.
