IEEE 1394a (Firewire) faster than USB 2.0?

I had time to think my setup over before rushing in and buying stuff I needed
1. Sony Vaio laptop. Wife won it at her work and gave to me. I added 2GB more RAM = 2.5GB
2. I added an External HD. Triple interface ... USB, FW & eSATA. I am using FW
3. recent purchase TASCAM M-164UF mixer - 16 channel USB 2.0, where specs said DO NOT use USB devices .. except mouse & KB​
All is good
 
So the triple interface gives you the option of any of those 3? What exactly are you using?
Interfaces will be my next area of research.

I am using the Firewire on WD My Book. It's FW 400. It should not be conflicting with the USB Audio, as Tascam said not to use any other USB devices, except KB & mouse.

I don't think there is a triple interface in the chain anywhere simply that the external hard drive can be connected by either USB, FW or eSATA. in this case FW is a good choice to connect the external drive as it leaves all the bandwidth on the USB for streaming the inbound audio from the mixer/interface and many laptops do not have eSATA ports (yet)
 
Ok, so a workable setup might be:

2 guitars -> USB interface ->Studio 17 (recording w/ Audacity) -> Storing via FW on extrernal drive.

Can anyone see any problems with that setup?

On this:
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i3-330M 2.13GHz (3M cache)
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
High Definition Audio 2.0 (which I guess will be bypassed anyway)
Intel® HD Graphics

Well there are never any guarantees, but this looks like a solid set up
