Hold on now...this is a bad idea. I can say that being a 15 year housepainter with TONS of Bondo experience that this will never work. That is basically a fiberglass product and does not handle torsion at all. It will break.

There is another way.

They make this stuff called dynamix, it's an epoxy based filler and dries to a harder than plexiglass consistency in seconds flat. You would have to drill small rooting holes in the neck to ensure a maximum bond but this stuff puts Bondo to shame not to mention it will probably sound better being harder and tighter bonding.

Please heed this warning.

Dynamix is the answer here. They have a special mixing gun for it that costs like $80 and tubes are about $30. I have a gun and would voulenteer to do the work as long as you promise to not use Bondo.

Email me if you want to try it...hell I'll send you the gun.

Well, thanks for the offer, anyway, jake. You know, I'm thinking about asking the music store for the woman's contact info and seeing about buying it off her anyway. But I don't know about this building up the neck idea. Wouldn't it be a pain to get the frets in there? Because bear in mind, they're also shaved down to size, so they'd have to be replaced as well. A friend of mine was saying that I should look into replacing the entire neck; he claims it can be done even on a set-neck guitar. He says he knows people who have done it.

Right. Any idea how much a good luthier would charge for this service?

Check with edromanguitars.com.I think they do L.P. neck resets and lots of other custom stuff.

That would be a much better option.

The dynamix could be fretted but if the neck can be replaced go get that thing!

D'ho. I just called the store to get the woman's info, and apparently she donated the guitar to the VH1 Music for Kids program. Oh well. [sarcasm]What do I need another guitar for? I already have a guitar.[/sarcasm]

Like Ed Roman says:

A good deal on a crappy guitar is not a good deal at all (or something like that).

I'd run far far away from that guitar....

Run Forest.... RUN !!!!
