OK i have a 1500 price range i was thinking of geting the vs840 and connecting it to the rd1000 tacsam mixer to record live bands but i heard that aint a great idea.
Then i though about the adat studio pack and thats high matenance and the tapes are exspensive so what is a good i dea to buy for my purposes.

See if you cant hunt down an Akai DPS16 for that price.....those VS840 preamps suck ass....

yeah, as you said salv. I would definetly not recomend the Alesis route at all. I have an XT20 that hasn't worked since I bought it and they were giving me a bit of a difficult time in the tech support about the entire deal. Now that I've sent them the machine it's been two weeks and they haven't even touched it yet. I called for the past couple of days to check on it and their entire office was closed for at least three days due to "operational changes" (which kinda sounds bad). I don't recommend Alesis anything any more. - dave

uh.... Alesis is goin' out of business, from what I understand. Maybe not bankruptcy, maybe so. Ed'll know ("sonusman")...

YEAH THATS WHAT I HEARD AND I HEARD ALOT OF BAD THINGS ABOUT ADAT EVEN THOUGH EVRYONE USES THEM.

Then you've been hearing a lot of misinformation...

well now...

Alesis out of business, huh... well that's just peachy. All i ever wanted was an Adat that worked. I would have been satisfied with an Adat repaired. Now i just want my Adat back. Man, it takes a lot to get me upset, but I am so not happy right now. (And i know you all feel my pain so deeply)

I reserve the right to doubt the claim that alesis goes out of business. They are selling stuff like crazy, so it seems rather unlikely.

This is the internet: Never beleive a rumour.

there's nothing wrong with ADAT. ive got 10 machines, none of them have failed. not even slightly broken.
