First of all, due to the overwhelming response I have decided to expand this course and have started asking musician, producer and studio manager friends to contribute. This thing is growing very fast. I may set up a mailing list to keep people informed when new lessons/labs are posted.
Secondly, you CAN make a great record in very little time at any location. While professional studios have isolation, good monitors and equipment please remember how many great records have been made in houses (even without a "remote truck"). In fact, Peter Gabriel often records drums in his control room (which must make checking mic settings over the speakers difficult...to say the least). As long as you have good mics (that are well selected for their use), placed in positions/locations that best pick up the sound you are looking for, going through good mic pres (also well selected for their use), and getting that sound recorded as directly as possible (rather than going through bad cables or effects that will ruin your good sound)...then you can make a great record anywhere.
