Also, I am a web application developer/webmaster and have server space and bandwidth, let me know if I can help.

This is a great thing your doing for all of us. I can't thank you enough...

anyone check out Bruce's jazz samples?
"recorded with no EQ or compression"

damn! you actually can get a good sound out of good mics, positioning, a good room and good musicians.

This sounds great!

I'm going to be out of town from July - August...are you going to have your courses archived so people like me who won't be here, or people who just stumble across it can catch up? Also, how long do you think the whole course will be? I was about to drop $1500 on a course here, but maybe i'll hold off, at least until I see what you can do. Class act.

Great idea! I'm in too! Thank you for sacrificing your time to this project.

It spends a lot of time bringing up the different elements of the songs, soloing several of Lindsey's guitars, and the various added percussion stuff.

Sounds like the 'classic albums' format. From the ones I've seen it's a pretty good series in general. I just have the dark side of the moon one on DVD but they show them on late night tv over here every now and again.

For any UK people interested, the Tom Dowd dvd is available here for a very decent price. In fact that's the only place I could find it but it's a decent price all the same.

Im very excited about this now too. im sure theres stuff out there for all of us to learn.

count me in and thanks Bruce and everyone else whos in support.

Also an idea might be to start it off with a mailing list. So it would email everyone when there were news or updates to the site. Starting with a letter of when its actually up. Also articles could be used in them too.

Just a thought.

Oh,

and after reading the the tips on your webpage i also thought it would be a good idea to get into the analog arena. I like most people here were born into recording into the digital age. I have a Tascam MS16 and a Ampex ATR102 in my studio right now and i would like to put better use of it. I know how to put the tape in and record, but actually understanding the mechanics, head alignment, and tape techniques might make me want to use it more.

Im sure theres plenty of people who either need to be educated in the analog world or they are in the same position where they might even have access to analog tape gear but dont know how to properly use it.

And if I may make a modest suggestion, pick up the DVD of Fleetwood Mac called, "The Making Of Rumours".

I'm having a hard time finding this one. Amazon doesn't have it. They just have the book: "Never Break the Chain: Fleetwood Mac and the Making of Rumours". I can't find it on Froogle either :(

Does anybody know where I can find it?

Thanks,
Brian

The art of recording is turning the same way as picture art. There are plenty of software titles for people to use, meaning there will be a lot of crap recordings out there. But like art, only the best recordings will be known and appreciated. It is becoming increasingly difficult to record, and as such, I am attending a four-year school for recording. Although everyone can teach themselves how to record, only those who can do it well will succeed.

I do plan on learning from you, I want to get as many points of view as I can on the subject.

it's just a bigger tallent pool to draw from if you ask me.

probably (hopefully) the crap will eventually sink to the bottom.

I happen to be browsing through the DVD Music section last night at our local 'One Stop Shopping' stores and lo and behold, there it was for $6.99 on sale...

I would have probably passed it by had I not just read this thread at work yesterday...

I watched it 3 times last night...

no matter what you say,
me, after YEARS of reading, experimenting, collecting gear, recording thé cheapest underground stuff u can imagine

can NOT beat a PRO studio by far...

and honestly, compared with most "local" people that claim to have a home studio i'm pretty good... but all i can do is record demo's, i'm even a student at at the SAE, i get better every month, but there's no way i can touch the "expensive mofos"

and honestly, i LOVE what i'm doing, i don't want junk ass bands, but i kick on working with beginners that kinda know what they're doing, no loosers, but no real expierienced people that can get exited by my sound...

i tell EVERYONE that is interested in recording with me that they'll have a demo that will be NOT a commercial recording, no matter how loud they play...hehe

my BIG advantage is that i'm young, i started this stuff real early, before the Boom and the Hype , hehe, i'm proud of that and the day i stop recording i'll be dead, thats my filosofy

no matter how many home and bedroomstudios pop up from under the ground every month....doesn't really matter i think, they sound like cheap demo studios, some sound extremely terrible,

do big studios have to fear this low-quality hype? (no offence, i'm right in the middle of it) Supergood bands, bands with studio expierience should know that a kid with a computer won't make them sound like God,
people that contact me and book me know that they CAN NOT even dream about walking in a big 4-chamber-studio with windows in each room !

WOW, thats future music for 90% of the bands i know

and out of expierience i know that it takes YEARS before you can even record decent, i'm talking about ENTIRE bands, not just some hiphop, once again, no offence for the hiphoppers, i record them too, but face it,
recording drums while there's two guitar amps in the hall and a vocalist is screaming in my mom's bedroom.....

aint easy to make this sound superb, especially if you got one weekend to record it all and one week to mix it all down...

BIG PEOPLE, DONT FEAR ME :o ,
might sound cruel but i think i'm not just talking for myself...
