and dosn't it seem like a strange product? In theory it's a good idea to start of with but shouldn't it have trim controls, pan pots, and faders to be worth while? Not to mention resemble more closely what it is designed to copy?
 
The whole theory behind the D2B and others is just a simple, high quality analog path - Faders, trim pots, etc. add noise.

As far as what it's supposed to resemble... I don't understand...

It's "just" a summing path. Plain and simple.

Maybe I misunderstood what it does. I see your point, but then how would you use it? Adjust all the levels and panning in the box?

In short, yup. Everything in the box, out's to the D2B, and summed analog.

If you want to do levels and panning they make a 8-in mixer (I believe it's called the "Dangerous Mixer" or something similar).

No, it doesn't simplify things. It's a box for those who want to pay $3000 to send each of their tracks through an extra step of D/A A/D conversion.
