Here's an idea that may not have occured to you, DJL:
Buy something else!
Disagree with Alan all you want, in my view the guy is the Henry Ford of mics. That notion struck me when I saw Alan say he needed to sell something on the order of 100,000 B1's to make a profit off them. Like it or not, Alan has paved the way for a lot more folks to take a stab at recording themselves. And when they decide to buy his mics then they need mixers and pres and cables and FX and room treatments and everything else that goes along with it. As folks get more involved in recording and their skills progress their idea of what sounds good is going to change too. So maybe today's 15-year-old that starts with a B1 is looking at Lawsons and Earthworks and other high-end stuff later.
Also, I think Alan is sincere in keeping the "E" series assembly in the US, and I think that idea came about as a direct result of input from boards like this.
But you're really beating the shit out of a dead horse, amigo.
